    Pros

Good work schedule, work at own pace. Great advisors. Helpful faculty and staff. Decent pay and good opportunities for resume building.

    Cons

Low pay. Some of the skills for the job do not really transfer into "real world" jobs. Take it with a grainew of salt.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work but try to include some competitive rewards with the pay compensation. Work more hours, don't limit hours, and add options for continuing employment.

    Pros

Most of the staff and faculty are easy to work with on campus.

    Cons

The University is a state employer, but your salary is dependent on what ever they want to pay you at the time. You could work for 30yrs at the university and never even make it to the mid-point of the salary scale. Almost all of the better paying jobs are pre-selected and executives lack the ability or qualification to make positive changes.

    Advice to Management

How can UNCP expect the university to be respected when it pays is own graduates the lowest salaries in state government? I recommend paying workers more fairly and stop making up factious reasons to keep employee pay low. Employees leave campus every year and get paid 20-60% more for doing the exact same job elsewhere.

    Pros

In the department I work, faculty members are very dedicated and work tirelessly towards the students' best interests.

    Cons

Location of campus is in a rural area which may not appeal to those wanting to eat out, shop, watch cultural shows, etc.

    Advice to Management

    Salary increase please.

    Pros

Responsibilities are light, not a lot of hard work, lenient about being late to work, make a lot of friends in co-workers.

    Cons

Low pay, not many permanent employment options, not many chances to advance unless you know someone well or gain favor with a higher up, people in higher positions aren't necessarily knowledge about their job.

    Advice to Management

Do not push responsibilities onto employees when you yourself don't know what you're doing.

    Pros

UNCP is a great place for your first job if you are NOT a local from the county. People from the county tend to start their career at the University... and retire from the same position or even get a random promotion. It is a great place for new professionals to hone your skills of working with multicultural and minority students in a rural, non-residential campus.

    Cons

Students seem more "entitled" because a lot of them come from low-income families or families where they have struggled just to survive. If you come from a privileged background, they will make you know that you are "not like them" and "you don't know anything about them". Administration has changed drastically over the past 5 years. Administration used to get promoted because of relationships, not knowledge, experience or talent, but because of who you know. Very political environment!! VERY POLITICAL! Everyone knows everyone... so be careful who you talk to about anything!

    Advice to Management

Work on developing your employees. Not just letting them do their job, but doing their job in the way they want. Also offer experiences outside of the job description to help people grow. Not everyone wants to stay at UNCP... so recognize that and help them get to where they want to go!

    Pros

The people are nice and you will find certain groups of people are amazing.

    Cons

The budget woes, combined with the stale leadership tend to hold this place back

    Advice to Management

Dont be afraid to shake it up and transparency is a good thing
