I worked at University of North Carolina full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Loved the environment, my co-workers, the faculty and students. Great challenges, supportive colleagues, never a dull day!

    Cons

As staff (not faculty), I felt that there was little room for career advancement without completely changing departments and job areas. In 5 1/2 years my salary increases were mostly from legislative action and when those stopped due to the recession, I saw this as a dead-end job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More professional development for staff. The University does a much better job in supporting and encouraging the careers of its faculty than it does for SPA staff.

Everyone is respected no matter your sexual orientation, gender, age, or race

The only issue is that they are very strict about training. It's a head ache but when it's a job that everyone is dying to have you do it.

    Pros

    - Helpful professors

    - Opportunities to explore your own interests
    - Synergy across different concentrations

    Cons

    - Not enough interested students to work on new exciting stuff
    - Pay is average
    - Infrastructure can be further improved

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - We didn't have much interaction with the management, instead it was more to do with professor with whom I was work, and thus we never had to deal with the management.
