    Pros

The staff. You have to love what you do to be in housing, and these people love it.

    Cons

unset hours. It's a housing job, so when duty calls, you have to come running.

I have been working at University of North Texas full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Working with students - helping them locate resources and determine/achieve their goals. Substantial tuition break for full-time employees.

    Cons

Little upward growth, little training (very unorganized), department plays favorites and does not choose to challenge or use employees to their fullest potential. Barely any recognition for hard workers, and departments often turn a blind eye to problem employees. Senior management is unprofessional and allowed to say and do inappropriate things simply because of rank/position.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Training is a joke. Even outside professional development courses offered by the university are elementary at best. UNT doesn't compensate employees fairly and wastes valuable resources.

I have been working at University of North Texas part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

This university has a very open atmosphere and good teachers, it is artistic and oriented towards the creative side of life. History of community and care, students are often open minded and free spirited.

    Cons

Management, the Administration at UNT has some pretty horrid policies and has had serious legal issues. The management is essentially self interested and is running UNT like a "business" rather than a University. This is unhealthy and is out for profit, not education.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work democratically, do not just make decisions for your benefit, and understand that your faculty are important and without them the University could not function.

I have been working at University of North Texas part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great environment for students to work part-time, and depending on the department, get extra training and insight outside the classroom environment.

    Cons

Poor pay, near impossible to get an increased budget from the Student Government Assoc., as they are concerned with all the wrong info to 'qualify' a budget increase. Hard to encourage promotion of student organizations in the governing body won't support us! The University needs to relinquish some of the SGA's control over the budget, or encourage senatorial participation from groups OTHER than the fraternities and sororities. It's like a Greek country club!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep focused on the student involvement, and resolve the financial issues.

    Pros

Working with great professor, I learn a lot, meet many people, and have opportunities to explorer the new research topics. Free good health insurance.

    Cons

Salary is not high enough. The work is temporary, so the opportunity would be closed if there is no budget.

    Cons

not well recognized for research in US. Tuition is a bit higher even if you get in-state

I worked at University of North Texas full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Lots of potential. Beautiful campus in a good location.

    Cons

A serious lack of quality leadership. Individuals holding the top positions have unrealistic expectations and no understanding of what they ask staff to do. Academic culture of bullying and harassment from the top. Little professionalism, no ethics. Very high turnover. Unhealthy work environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be leaders. First understand what you are asking of others, then take responsibility when you mess up. Give clear achievable goals with realistic expectations and provide the necessary tools to do the job.
