I worked at University of Nottingham part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

It is a great place to work surrounded by friendly and highly skilled people. The research in Nottingham has top notch technology and lab facilities. Good chance to participate in international conferences.

    Cons

Nearing conference dead lines the work load can peak whereas other times can be very relaxed and may lead to boredom. If you're working in an isolated lab you might feel a bit isolated from the rest of the community, but that is personal choice again.

I have been working at University of Nottingham part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Very flexible, work offered on a "sign up if you're available" basis to work around studies and lecture commitments.

Managers/full-time staff very friendly and accommodating.

You get to meet and work with a wide variety of people from many different places.

    Cons

You'll sometimes find yourself waiting around, often I felt shift start times were too early compared to when events would actually be taking place. You may have everything setup with an hour to kill before visitors even started turning up.

Wide range of talks and interesting people, strong reputation, facilities which are sometimes lacking but are moving forward in important areas

    Cons

Some aging facilities, poor interaction between departments, teaching has improved but still lower than other red-bricks parking onsite is limited and strictly enforced.

I worked at University of Nottingham

    Pros

Nottingham is a cheap place to live, expanding University, nice buildings.

    Cons

No culture, systems (appraisal, review, flexible working hours etc.) are non-standardised and generally not very helpful, people more interested in promoting themselves then developing research with an impact.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would imagine in a University, staff are one of the biggest assets as they drive student numbers and satisfaction; might be an idea to treat them as such.

Former Contractor - Student Ambassador in Nottingham, England (UK)

I worked at University of Nottingham as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

Good part time pay for a student job and can fit it around academic commitments. While at university this job gave some work experience to put on the CV for future employers.

    Cons

There are always events going on at the uni but the irregularity of the work can mean some weeks without work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is not much in the way of management as it is a part time uni job.
