Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at University of Sheffield part-time for less than a year

ProsGreat, friendly staff. Treat you really nicely. Pay you more than any other student jobs and also with better working hours. Very flexible

ConsCan be difficult to try to juggle a degree with the job and it does involve missing quite a few lectures etc. so it is easy to fall behind

The University is great

Teaching Assistant, Architecture (Current Employee)
Sheffield, England (UK)

I have been working at University of Sheffield as a contractor for less than a year

ProsI enjoy the flexibility, I was allowed to cater my schedule to my workload during term

ConsI think my cons are not relevant, I am from the USA and the only issues I had were things that seem rather standard in the UK. One pay day per month, visa issues, just minor issues.

Nice place to work, Nice place to Live around, good for peaceful life

Administrator (Current Employee)
Sheffield, England (UK)

I have been working at University of Sheffield

ProsJob security, manageable stress level, benefits for employees

ConsLess pay than industry. Recent system implementation is terrible.

Advice to Senior ManagementIn last 3 years lot of money has been spent on 100th birthday and rebranding (in form of changing logo and other things). Was it worth taking the trouble..now lot of buildings still have the old logo! It was not needed..what was necessary was more marketing to bring in more students.
Also new system from SAP was implemented..it feels all the money was not well spent..it didnt do much good..nothing works without training..and without exact steps..leaving everyone using the system frustrated...everyone complains..no one listens. Much better system could have been generated without outsourcing - with help of students and staff..it could have meant more time...but it would have taken into account user requirements rather than thrusting upon us the system SAP has done now
