I worked at University of South Florida full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

If you're already there as a student, you don't have to go far for work! Supervisors are young, customers are peers, pay is good!

    Cons

I don't really have any cons. The facility is beautiful, the staff is wonderful, I chose my hours, and I hope I'm at the minimum because I have nothing bad to say!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to evaluate the classes to make sure everyone is teaching up standards. Don't have too many meetings because employees are usually students that are already busy enough.

I worked at University of South Florida

    Pros

Flexible hours, Lax management. It's pretty hard to get fired from here. Most people stay as long as they want until they find something else.

    Cons

You're pretty much stuck at the rate you get hired at no matter how long you've been there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Give yearly bonuses

I have been working at University of South Florida (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great staff
    Flexible to your situation
    80% tuition covered

    Cons

    Low pay
    Not full tuition reimbursement

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay adjuncts and graduate teaching assistants more. This is more of a problem for the entire industry than just USF.

I worked at University of South Florida part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Ability to teach, be in charge of classes, beautifully maintained campus, good pay (for a graduate student), awesome library, gym, and on-campus entertainment.

    Cons

Bare minimum health insurance, lack of oversight from department chairs to graduate student advisors

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have more interaction for students with "bad" advisors.

  7. Great real-world experience for motivated students

I have been working at University of South Florida

    Pros

Interactions with faculty have been very positive and interactions with USF VP office has been great, too. Everyone wants you to succeed; my experience has been one of increasing responsibility (started as receptionist, moved to financial work).

    Cons

Cumbersome bureaucratic procedures take time, and distract faculty from their primary job of research and teaching. As part of an admin team, we spent a lot of time following procedures that were very unwieldy. (Submit form to dept X, mail to dept Y, then send to dept Z, each time to collect multiple signatures.)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work with department chairs AND administrators before enacting broad new policies. Often times our leadership knew about a change, but had no idea how it impacted the administration of the department, and did not communicate the policy change to us (administration) until after it was enacted.

I have been working at University of South Florida full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

A lot of research funding and well recognized school, Administration can be supportive and the weather isnt bad

    Cons

Low pay for graduate assistants, the quality of the courses is poor. There is a big lack of mentorship in the medical college

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start by increasing pay then taking your phd students out of your masters students classes. Then increase your professional development programs as they are slim to none.

    Pros

Good work environment, lots of opportunities. Most people were nice, but there were also a lot of flakes.

    Cons

Was a temporary ops position, so no benefits. Employees have to pay to park to work here, which is expensive. Found that ridiculous.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give your employees free parking - or at least make it cheap!
