    Pros

Friendly researchers around and they like to offer hands. Working schedule is flexible as long as you maintain 9 hours of work a day.

    Cons

Collaboration between research labs seems to be limited, some rules to judge a research assistant don't have a set standard, various a bit

    Advice to Management

Encouraging collaboration between research groups and departments. Make clear goal and responsibility for everyone

I worked at University of Southern Mississippi full-time

    Pros

The benefits were good including a limited number of free classes per semester. Coworkers are friendly.

    Cons

In most areas, upward moment is hard depending on what area you work. Upper management tends to stay in positions for the long haul and can stick it out until retirement. This can lead to a division or department becoming stagnant as no new ideas are coming in and people would rather maintain the status quo.

In the department I worked in, I saw numerous people leave as promotions were given to those that were popular in the after work setting rather than those who were the most capable for the job shown by solid job performance. The department suffered because of it. This is not the case University wide however.

    Advice to Management

A good candidate for a job is one that is likeable and is qualified. Stagnation leads to unmotivated workers.

    Pros

School environment very relaxed, but professional at the same time.

    Cons

Although the university is a very pro-research environment, for some reason their innovative research being conducted every day is not advertised as much as one would expect.

    Pros

Offered many opportunities for outside training and allowed full-time employees to take two free classes per semester.

    Cons

Compensation was way below market, even for a government agency.

    Advice to Management

Offer more rewards for great performance.

    Pros

Relaxed and self-paced work opportunity, low expense location but yet close to major interstates, not much competition waiting out there to kill you

    Cons

Lack of academic freedom, (relatively) low pay, you are an outsider unless you belong to the belt.

It has overall nice campus, very friendly staff and faculty, nice gym, community center for students, and on campus cafetaria.

    Cons

Departments except polymer science has more or less no industry connection. So, it is hard to network with industry people. Library do not have subscriptions to many upper tier journals.
