    Managing by fear

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Sydney (Australia)

ProsIf the organisation is for you the overall terms and conditions are ok.

ConsIt was a very rigid environment which didn't allow creativity or initiative. A small staff turnover meant a reluctance to change and / or new ideas. The management style often reflected this with an outdated autocratic style.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe open to change, new ideas and questions regarding why things happen the way they do.

A fairly typical university of technology

    Academic (Current Employee) Sydney (Australia)

ProsUTS has a fantastically convenient location for a Sydney university, right next door to central station. It has an "up and coming" sense of enthusiasm and excitement - lots of new construction going on in a "urban university" and it has a sense of striving to do better on research performance.

ConsAside from all the usual complaints one might have about a university job, there is unfortunately very limited support provided to academics and the messages from upper management about goals and objectives can be very mixed.

    Casual Staff

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsIf you can get casual work at UTS as a student it is great. Great pay, better than what students can get for most jobs.

ConsThe only downside is that there is a lot of paper work to fill out, and sometimes there are problems with the system. For example, they havn't been able to pay me for two weeks and it's a problem with their IT system.

    Fantastic

Research Student (Current Employee) Ultimo (Australia)

ProsFriendly environment and well organised staff around the corner.
In addition to that, there are many resources to help students' needs satify such as scholarship and casual work.

I don't see anything for now but too small capacity for students???
