    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing. Listen to employees like you have always done in the past.

    Pros

Good working environment. Able to achieve desired work-life balance. Good benefits. Supportive office environment. Fast-paced, busy schedule, but rarely have to deal with avoidable crises.

    Cons

As a government employer, while benefits and work-life balance are great, pay is not as high as other industries and increases are subject to the state meeting its budget goals.

    Pros

Working for the Graduate School of Medicine at UTMC has been a wonderful experience! This position has taught me how to be responsible - since someone isn't standing over me telling me what to do. Nothing feels better when you get to pat yourself on the back for completing a task with no guidance. This job has given me numerous opportunities... I'm very blessed!

    Cons

The Graduate School offers to pay for tuition at Tennessee colleges (university and community) - the only problem is some departments let you work different schedules to attend class while others do not!

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good job!

    Pros

Paid Time off is generous and culture is relaxed

    Cons

Employees tend to stay in positions a very long time sometimes beyond retirement age so promotions and growth are difficult

    Advice to Management

Create clear and obtainable career paths, promote from within and make pay commiserate with industry standard

  10. Nightmare politics. Until there is change it is a waste of state money.

    Pros

Hey, at least I have health insurance.

    Cons

Absolute terrible place to work with atrocious politics. Incompetent staff know how to work the system and others at the top are afraid to make changes even though they know it is needed. I've been told more than once: "it's happening all over campus", "you will have to wait until they retire", etc. If you want to do nothing and feel purposeless, this is the place for you. If you want to make change, better go to HR or risk being set up for anything and everything. Do not confuse UTHSC with UT; they are not the same in any aspect!

    Advice to Management

Keep it coming new HR Alston all stars. I feel for you and the long road you have, but please keep supporting those in the field trying to make this a better place.
