Pros
Excellent work/life balance and you get to work with some excellent minds. Pace of work is as fast as you want it to be.
Cons
Pay will be lower than the for-profit world but that is the tradeoff for the work/life balance. Limited opportunities for job movement...often workers stay in same job for many years.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue their dedicated service to the citizens of Texas who are their customers. Outstanding, gifted leaders that strive to provide excellent value in education.
Pros
I really enjoy having benefits like health insurance and discounted tuition. Depending on what university or location, other benefits are available- like discounted tickets, etc.
Cons
There is limited flexibility in the hours.
Advice to Senior Management
Allow more employees to work from home.
Pros
Its a happening place, the work culture is really nice and professional and they pay you good. The management is very nice.
Cons
The growth options are good but limited. Besides they isn't much of industry exposure for a profession like mine, that is engineering
Advice to Senior Management
I guess they are doing a pretty good job, and trying their best to push the university into Tier-1. The fund raising was slacky in past two years, but the university is picking up pace now.
Pros
Intellectually challenging and rewarding in my research area
Cons
Salary & compensations are not competitive compared to industry.
Pros
cool work environment, reasonable package and low cost of living. Also, highly cooperative university policies make it a great place to work.
Cons
low pay, high work load, low career growth rate and lack of exposure to the industry and the probability of getting stuck is high.
Advice to Senior Management
Try to increase the pay and try to put more research labs so that more people can be employed in the long run.
Pros
Its the biggest employer in the city of Austin, which is an amazing city to live in. The weather is great
Cons
You are on a college campus in the middle of downtown Austin which can be quite noisy. And there is alot of orange
Advice to Senior Management
Management does a good job. The athletic department seems to get most of the attention which makes sense since they do make alot of money
