Former Employee – worked at University of Texas at Arlington
Pros – Arlington is a nice suburb in between Dallas and Fort Worth, not very expensive and is a growing and relatively safe city. There are several large companies in the DFW area, which is a major economic and industrial hub, and offer opportunities in engineering (aerospace, IT).
Cons – UTA does not seem to bring in the big research projects or funding. If you end up with a not so great professor(s), then you loose, not much scope to better yourself unless you move to a different university. Some of the students (colleagues) have bad attitudes or outlooks in life which can get you down.
Advice to Senior Management – Teach professors to identify good students (foreign and native) and support them.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

Current Employee – been working at University of Texas at Arlington
Pros – UTA is a great place to work, period. My hourly employees are like family and one of the reasons why I have stayed here for so long. Very flexible work schedule.
Cons – Since management has no clue what the hourly employees do, they constantly throw wrenches into the works. They cut hours and overtime opportunities and expect us to still get the job done. If several events are scheduled and you are about to go into overtime you are expected to leave your shift, even if it is still in progress and with no regard to client needs. They don't want you in overtime, but won't hire any new staff to cover the work load.
Advice to Senior Management – Get in the game or get out of the way.

Former Employee – worked at University of Texas at Arlington
Pros – Solid benefits package, good location, opportunity to meet many different people (depending on what department you work in and what your job is)
Cons – Pay was not as competitive as other companies in the region, and it might be difficult to move around to different departments
Advice to Senior Management – Obviously the president can't meet everyone, but it seems a little weird to have him on a videotaped speech at orientation

Current Employee – been working at University of Texas at Arlington
Pros – There is a lot of flexibiity in scheduling for a healthy work life balance. The university is going through a lot of changes so the future will hold a lot of growth. The university is on the horizon and should experience a lot of major growth in the next couple of years.
Cons – The current administration keeps changing. Upper Administration is not always as competent as their resume would indicate. The alumni base is large but not major contributors due to commuter school past. Their is also a lack of sports enthusiams due to a lack of a Football program.
Advice to Senior Management – Do the job that you said you would do. Also consider UT Arlington as part of their future not a stepping stone to a more recognized university. Also focus on making students enjoy the university more because they are future alumni of the university.

Current Employee – been working at University of Texas at Arlington
Pros – You'll gain experience communicating knowledge you learned at the university. You will be remembering much of the material you learned.
Cons – Training (while mandatory) is not paid.
An hours work of paperwork each 2 week period is mandatory and also not paid.
Management could be easier to work with.
Pay is only 8.50/hr as of Spring 2012.
Advice to Senior Management – Pay your tutors, and treat them better better if you want someone competent.

Former Employee – worked at University of Texas at Arlington
Pros – Diversity, Meet new and different people. Office Parties and International week are always great. The other work-study students make it a fun experience.
Cons – To much expected for little pay, not all staff is nice and friendly. You get talked down and shown little respect
Advice to Senior Management – Be nicer to work-study students without them you would be lost. Higher wages would be great because the little pay you offer is an insult.
