Current Employee – been working at University of Utah full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Great quality of life, can have a decent life style with low living expenses, good salary benefits and awesome people.
Cons – You really have to push yourself out of your comfort zone if you want to achieve some thing bigger. . People are very relaxed with their current jobs and can work there for years and years with very little amount of salary raise. So, growth is limited
Advice to Senior Management – Should give more recognition to their employees, should provide better growth platforms to retain their good and excellent employees .

Former Employee – worked at University of Utah part-time for more than a year
Pros – Office is really laid back, everyone is nice and friendly. They normally don't fire anyone, don't have to worry about job security. Never late on paycheck.
Cons – The wage is relatively low compared to similar jobs at corporate employers, maybe because University's funding is quite limited.
A lot of people working here would eventually choose to retire here, so promotion opportunities are limited.
Advice to Senior Management – Please increase salary and consider bonus incentive.

Current Employee – been working at University of Utah
Pros – I love being able to work on campus which cuts down my transportation costs. Also the management team is comfortable and respectful. They treat me as an equal.
Cons – At times it is hard to get extra hours. As well it is a pain to work on Saturdays when I am at home and I have to commute 45 minutes to campus just to work a 4 hour shift.
Advice to Senior Management – They're doing a great job.

Current Employee – been working at University of Utah full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Excellent benefits and great work environment.
Cons – Quality of management varies by department. Number and/or Level of degrees is more important than the ability to effectively accomplish the task at hand.

Former Employee – worked at University of Utah part-time for more than a year
Pros – Beautiful work environment (landscape) and infrastructure
Generally nice co-workers and community
Cons – Little to no explanation of expectations and regular duties, excessive hours worked due to mismanagement from senior personnel, lack of respect, unmotivated students with a lack of respect of the rules of college (I have to work excuse over and over), no care or enforcement of widespread cheating. Being a TA for 4 different classes in 4 semesters is counter-productive.
Advice to Senior Management – Recognize that when you have a huge increase in enrollment, you should hire more help and not overload and underpay your teaching assistants. Give teaching assistants clear directions and outline your expectations. Don't ask your TAs to reinvent the wheel for an assignment. College should be tough and there are no good excuses for not doing work unless of family emergencies, but for some reason at the University of Utah, they bend over backward for second-rate work and will allow anything to be late. Lastly, although it's OK to work together on assignments and projects, carbon copies = cheating (especially when you're not even close to correct). I was a TA for 4 different classes in 4 semesters even though I was told I was a great help; this is counter-productive and too much effort for trying to take classes and find/create/finish a thesis project all at once.
