    Interesting & monotonous

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsInteresting subjects for the research I found myself doing.
    Professors were very nice
Research could be done on my own time

    ConsNo opportunities for advancement.
Once school finished, work dried up
Work I was doing was fairly boring data gathering

Advice to Senior ManagementLack of opportunities for advancement

Nice town, nice campus but a Little bit isolated academic community

    Research Associate (Former Employee)

ProsVery nice town, good mix of nature and culture

Cons-High cost of living in comparison to the offered pay.
-Too much variance between the salaries for similar positions (ie. some people are ridiculously well-compensated while others with similar merits are not) .
-Too little diversity (mostly white males in their 30s-40s in some fields) when it comes to permanent academic positions
-Can be very cold in winter.
-Aside from UVM, not too many jobs in the state. If you are married, it might be hard for your spouse to get a job if they are not also employed by UVM.

Advice to Senior Managementvalue diversity more

Dudley H. Davis Center - Working here was one of the best decisions I made during my years at UVM.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsEveryone was intelligent, thoughtful and respectful. The attention given to closing the feedback loop served as an encouraging (and accurate) indicator of managers' commitment to improving the UVM experience for both employees and visitors. As a UVM employee, having a voice was only among the many opportunities that help build relevant real-life and career experience. On the job training, employee appreciation events and room for upward mobility were only the tip of the iceberg. My experiences working at and with UVM were nothing short of positive. And the skills gained during my time there left me better prepared for life after college than any class could ever offer.

ConsTough to find a downside to working at the DC. Lots of great people, and an encouraging and supportive community of leaders. I highly recommend finding a way to get involved.

UVM values diversity and an inclusive culture.

    Administrative Assistant (Current Employee)
    Burlington, VT

ProsA great place to work. They have a great benefits package with great health insurance, tuition remission, and a commitment to a healthy work-life balance. The people at the university and greater community are caring and supportive. Burlington, Vermont is one of the best small cities in the US offering clean air, great schools, a diverse community and has a good venue supporting the arts.

ConsThere are no cons as far as I am concerned.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up the good work in keeping employees happy.

    Assistant Production Manager (Current Employee)

ProsEasy money, lots of job opportunities, and the people in charge are flexible about hours

ConsDepending on the type of job, hours can be scarce as the University tries to hire as many people as possible.

Good place for research, exciting city in which to live.

    Postdoctoral Fellow (Current Employee)
    Burlington, VT

ProsResearch is promoted by administration that is helpful - IRB works with scientists to get research approved, for example. Very fast turnaround on IRB proposals, requests for technology access, and just simply great service when you need it.

ConsBudgetary constraints have handcuffed research in odd ways. Specifically it is difficult to get updated computers - I use my own laptop as the early 2000s era Mac in my office can't run a spreadsheet large enough for my data, let alone a more sophisticated statistical package.

Advice to Senior ManagementBudget for technology infrastructure upgrades in the overhead costs from grants (honestly, F&A is up to nearly 50%, it's ridiculous to have so much backdated technology with so much cash flow from grants).
