I have been working at University of Waterloo part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Get to see some interesting shows. The schedule is relaxed. The work expectations are pretty easy. The supervisor is very flexible to reasonable requests.

    Cons

The amount of work varies greatly over the year. The shifts can be on the small size and don't justify a long commute. They don't give a solid shift end time. The work involves a lot of standing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The decisions are mostly cost driven which diminishes the experience for the customers. The management also tries to cut costs on labour aggressively lowering employee moral and again diminishing quality.

I worked at University of Waterloo as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

The people are very friendly. I had a brief consulting position for about 8 months, however during my time everyone was very cooperative of my project initiatives.

Also, the salary ranges are very reasonable for industry standards

    Cons

Expense management was slow, other than that everything is excellent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the good work, as this is an excellent place of employment.

I have been working at University of Waterloo full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

UWaterloo culture is dynamic and entrepreneurial with a student body that is ambitious and smart beyond belief. The University is also small enough to move relatively quickly (compared to larger educational institutions).

    Cons

Very traditional and outdated systems; faculty who are not as ambitious as their students (with some exception - IQC is world class).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Update the systems; hire more faculty from outside Canada.
