Pros
i live on campus. i like being a student because i can have summers off and im not in co-op so i don't have to work all the time.
Cons
it is stressful, i sometimes don't have enough time to go groccery shopping because of this and i have to buy unhealthy cafeteria food.
Advice to Senior Management
you could try caring more about individual students and realizing that instead of bell curving a midterm or exam, you could actually fix your course.
Pros
Relaxing, innovative minds, good reputation for scholarship appication, nice people, good professors who really care about the students, nice working environment
Cons
limited resources for VLSI design, long cycle time for VLSI tape-outs, limited funding, not well-known in the world, small town, low-pay for research assistants
Pros
you have your own office; work with students, professors, and other researchers; living cost in Waterloo is low; close to banks, doctor's office, dentist, restaurants.
Cons
quite difficult to get a permanent position as an external applicant; the hiring policies are not very clear.
Advice to Senior Management
hopefully when some questions related to hiring are asked in Human Resource department, someone in HR could be able to answer them instead of asking us to go back and ask our faculty stuff.
Pros
The people here are all very nice and understanding. The facility and community is also excellent.
The hours are very flexible
Cons
Pay is not very good...
Pros
Great benefits, world class programs
Cons
Not as progressive and cutting edge as in the past. Getting big and bureaucratic.
Advice to Senior Management
Accept more. Input at lower levels
Pros
- Relaxed environment to work at
Cons
- Compensation isn't competitive
- Lack of pressure to complete certain work
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work
Pros
nothing, my peers are very good
Cons
No appreciation, less pay and too much work load not divided equally among staff of same level
Advice to Senior Management
Should deal each department on same level
Pros
My courses allow me to gain insights into how university and professional degree students think, work, and what motivates them. Seeing learning happen is also very motivating and rewarding!
Cons
U of W is not eactly an MIT or Harvard or U of Toronto in that it is not super resource rich. However, this encourages innovation, something Waterloo is known for.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue tracking and evaluating teaching outcomes, student outcomes, and evolve teaching curriculum and tools to meet the new tools of this information age. In other words, keep up to date and on the leading edge to ensure we are nurturing relevant and competitive talent.
Pros
Good students, wonderful instructors and professors. No matter what kind of TA you take, it will be a great treasure for your acadmic career
Cons
Working time is flexible and maybe it's better to fix an office hour to work in short time. Resource is limited
Advice to Senior Management
It is pretty good to have TA position for each course. But the number of them is a little short, which lead to ......
Pros
Ability to move around easily. Relaxed - very stress-free. Any accomplishement is praised. Work ethic is medeocre. High work ethic is shocking to some.
Cons
Very union mentality. You're not encouraged to help other departments, think 'outside the box', but instead just to do your job on time and well. Job very narrow in scope. Limited in creativity.
Advice to Senior Management
Job shadowing would help contract employees become full time
