Spend time trying to understand day to day operations of nursing units before making policy changes. Stop cutting pay and benefits. Increase staffing levels on inpatient units and float staff in ambulatory care.

    Pros

Even thought the hospital is a big place, after a while you will get to know most staff that you come to contact with. Most staff are great to work with, everyone is friendly and professional.

    Cons

Because it is a big place to work at, management cannot micro managed employees. There are employees that take advantage of this and didnt get their work done as it should be.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please listen to current employees. Take their advices, and find a better solution to it, since they are the ones that experience the everyday routine of the job.

I have been working at University of Wisconsin Hospital And Clinics full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The hospital offers great benefits, great vacation package, sick leave that rolls over every year, and excellent opportunities for growth with tuition reimbursement. Opportunities for advancement are many. They have tried to deal with the Act 10 changes appropriately but many employees are still upset by the change in law. Employees see that they have to pay more for retirement and more for insurance but don't take any of the other changes in the health care market into consideration. The hospital has also included the staff in the decisions being made regarding the unions going away but many staff complain about how they don't want to go to meetings, they just want to do their work. If you aren't willing to have a voice in the change, then don't complain about them. You are being given the opportunity to give input, take it. It is human nature to be concerned for yourself but I believe the employees should be very thankful they work in a stable environment.

    Cons

Large institution with many layers so it takes a long time for change to happen, this is a disappointment to many staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would ask upper administration to be more visible and get involved more with front line staff.

    Pros

First off, UW Hospital offered a very good benefit package. It is a research hospital so they offer very skilled health care and treat their employees well, also.

    Cons

It is a very fast paced environment depending on what position you are doing. But there is such great potential for job advancement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I personally think that UW Hospital and Clinics have extreme professional quality within their management team.
