    Pros

Nice people all around you. Big campus with diversity and great sports. Excellent engineering school and Medical school which provide tons of research opportunities.

    Cons

Stipend is low relative to the living cost in Madison. The campus is huge and takes time to go from one building to the other.

    Advice to Management

Public school have too many process for every application, reimbursement etc. Administration needs to be trimmed and more efficient.

    Pros

Provides teaching experience necessary for advancement in academic fields. Flexible hours. Reasonably good benefits. Tuition remission for graduate school.

    Cons

Hours predictably exceed limits set by appointment percentage. Salary is borderline poverty level. Continuing job opportunities at the institution hinges on the moods of legislators and the politics of university funding.

    Advice to Management

Teaching Assistants are muscle of the university -- without them, the whole system collapses. Therefore, pay more than poverty wages.

    Pros

Incredible Benefits Package and wonderful atmosphere & co-workers. The offices and available equipment and machinery are well kept and are readily available for research.

    Cons

Depending on the department, there may be a fair amount of red tape when it comes to anything spending related.
Office politics seem to dominate certain aspects of the job.

    Advice to Management

Allow for more freedom from students when they want to spend small amounts of budget money to enhance their research. Minor allowances in the budget would enable great increases in quality of the research being done.

    Pros

PEOPLE Program was a great place to work. They were flexible with student hours. The pay was good and the job was fun. I felt as though I was making a difference.

    Cons

Sometimes the hours were not as we were told. There was some confusion over school schedules. I wish we had been paid for travel time because the cabs were often late to pick us up.

    Advice to Management

Organize a different way of getting employees to and from sites. Be more organized with application process and invite more veterans back to work before opening the application to other people.
