    Pros

Great access to clinicians and professors in my field. Very collaborative environment and rich with resources and core facilities. Overall a great, supportive atmosphere for a graduate program!

    Cons

There is a great diversity of curriculum at UW-Madison, but the graduate school should do more to normalize the requirements for graduate school (with respect to entrance requirements, qualifying exams, preliminary exams, final dissertation, and classwork).

    Pros

As an undergrad researcher, I learned the ins and outs of biotech--being on the cutting edge was a huge advantage. Working with intelligent and motivated folks was what made coming into work every day worth it.

    Cons

the pay was bad, but that's to be expected

    Pros

Good overall culture, nice people in a fun city, lots of interesting research going on in the university

    Cons

Low pay (no surprise there), not much mobility between jobs within the UW system, some positions have little/no chance for advancement, might have to jump through some hoops to get a job if you're not a student

    Advice to Management

It would be nice if it was more possible to move between positions within the UW. At the moment it seems like there's no special consideration for current employees; when I tried to apply for another similar position within the UW, my application was lumped in with all the others.

    Pros

Student employees receive lots of flexibility and freedom. Easy place to work with low expectations. Good for someone who is juggling lots of other things.

    Cons

Not much room to grow without influential connections. Some of the IT related areas seem like students forgot that the frat party ended the night before. Lots of sexually charged "humor" and male camaraderie - good for those who fit the stereotype, not so much for those who don't. Management was either unaware or intentionally uninvolved.

    Advice to Management

    Students need more supervision.
