    Positive Outlook

I have been working at University of Wisconsin full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good school; lots of fun things to do around town. Usually, interesting people at school. Lots of libraries for which to work

    Cons

Work; the winters are brutal. The summers are quite nice though. The atmosphere is nice--air quality is high.

    Advice to Management

Management is political. Obviously can be improved but that requires legislative action. Who knows?

I worked at University of Wisconsin full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Received a paycheck but other than that the quality of leadership was extremely poor.

    Cons

Co-workers were good, hard working people and it was unfortunate to see so many suffer under poor management.

    Advice to Management

Go back to square one and learn what integrity means....this should be a building block for any management position.

I have been working at University of Wisconsin full-time

    Pros

The flexible schedule and work environment are a real plus. Working with some of the brightest minds in science is motivating.

    Cons

Compensation is below market and under the current human resources structure, it is very difficult to achieve any real upward mobility. The powers that be in the state are less than committed to funding higher education.

    Advice to Management

We will hang in there until the funding issues become sorted out. There is a steady deluge of amazing work flowing from the University of WIsconsin. We have much to be proud of.

    Pros

Fun job, get to learn on the job, very flexible around your schedule.

    Cons

Can be tedious. Must be a detail oriented person or your mounts won't turn out.

    Advice to Management

None. I loved my job and would recommend it for anyone. It's a great part-time job for students looking to make a few extra bucks, learn more about botany and taxonomy, and learn new skills.

I have been working at University of Wisconsin full-time

    Pros

Used to be a mecca in the Midwest for academics seeking an opportunity to make a real contribution in their field.

    Cons

State funding, shared governance, even possibly tenure fading, possibly to near nothingness. I would not recommend applying for a job here, nor would I send my children.

I worked at University of Wisconsin part-time

    Pros

Management works with hectic student schedule and friendly staff. Location is ideal for a student worker.

    Cons

Very little organization, poor training, incompetent management. Difficult working with such a large staff with zero consistency in how they were trained.

    Advice to Management

Hire new management. Retrain entire staff. Rebrand entire operation.
