Pros
Fun, good opportunity for advancement
Cons
College town customers, lack of professional environment
Advice to Senior Management
Create a better professional atmosphere
Pros
They say that there is a lot of room to take on new responsibilities and grow in the company if you plan to be there for a long time, but you have to fight for shifts
Cons
Averaged $10-$12 an hour
Inconsistant shifts
Poor communication regarding scheduling and time off
Want you to up-sell several things at once
High turn-over - always new faces so there lacks a sense of "team"
Advice to Senior Management
Work with the employees, listen to their scheduling needs and don't punish them if they don't have full availability.
Pros
They gave you the tools to succeed.
Promotion from within
Good management structure
Great food
Fun Atmosphere
Pros outweighed the cons
Potential to make money was based on performance
Cons
Possible long hours
Not as flexible as a standard hourly position
Hourly pay was low with not many pay raises
Potential to make money was based on performance
Advice to Senior Management
Stop putting kids (under 21 year olds) on the bar. During the week keep only 1 bartender on. Keep the employees happy and the guests will notice.
Pros
It offers good flexibility and allows you to meet a variety of people that can introduce you to other fields.
Cons
There can be a lot of politics and drama that involves the hourly serving jobs as one would expect at restaurants.
Advice to Senior Management
Ensure that there is proper feedback coming from the bottom of the chain to ensure that decisions made are compatible to everyone throughout the company.
Pros
dealing with the people, some great ones
can be fun if you make it that way
Cons
upper management does not know what it is like to run a store, they never leave their office,
Advice to Senior Management
get out into the feild
Pros
The Uno's I worked in was located in a college town. The atmosphere was great because we had a younger, fun staff. There was a hardcore group that remained with Uno's for quite some time. Also, the cost of meals at Uno's was higher than your average family chain restaurant so there was a lot of potential to make great money in tips.
Cons
It is a chain restaurant so there are corporate rules and regulations you have to abide by like the ridiuculous dress shirt and tie for EVERYONE. The Uno's I worked in was in the processing of being shut down. Towards the end, the upper management was very unpleasant towards the staff.
Advice to Senior Management
Overall, my experience with Uno's was good. I thoroughly enjoyed the staff and management for the majority of my time there. Towards the end, I believe the upper management could have handled themselves in a more mature manner.
Pros
-Decent number of customers so you usually have tables to work.
-Most tables are couples or families so, they usually have 'larger' bills...which normally mean better tips
-The team works well together running food and such...so keeps the tables happy
Cons
-Coupons. People don't understand that if you get a coupon you should still tip on the original amount.
-Tips...I don't know what the deal is...maybe it is some kind of cultural thing...but certain people have a high tendency to not tip or tip very poorly.
Advice to Senior Management
Put a recommended tip amount on the bills.
Be more involved with the community - there is essentially nothing I found that was a community or school event sponsored by Uno.
Pros
good work/life balance
friendly management
Ability to gain experience in different areas
Cons
Bad pay compared to other equal positions in this industry
Company filed bankruptcy an began down sizing
Company does not fix problems in restaurants. Instead they jut close the down.
Trying to make up four mor words
Advice to Senior Management
Stop closing so many restaurants espeically new ones an really fix the problemsthey have
Pros
Employee discount is good for food
Cons
Management is horrible. I can't think of a worse team of people to lead others.
Pros
Restaurant invented "Chicago" Deep Dish style pizza. They also operate a fast casual concept called Uno Due Go & a quick service concept called Uno Express.
Cons
Some markets thrive better than others.
