I worked at Unum Group part-time

    Pros

Great culture, supportive work environment, great management, organized, and overall a nice place to work. Great benefits, and great environment with coworkers. There are SO many opportunities to grow and move up in the company, as they like to hire from within.

    Cons

Classic cube environment so you can get a little stir crazy if you don't make friends with your coworkers and/or have a full and social life outside of work to balance it out.

    Pros

You are considered a valuable employee as an intern and given the opportunity to innovate and challenge company norms. Sessions with senior leaders and numerous opportunities to meet with them are just a few of the perks.

    Cons

Only downside is having to walk between buildings on the campus; but is that really a con?

    Pros

Competitive salaries, amazing benefits, awesome opportunities to grow in the company, great work environment, a thorough interview-hire process, and great incentives

    Cons

With it being insurance there will be some hard calls made, especially in regards to claims.

I have been working at Unum Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The company cares about it's clients and keeps the focus on the people who need the insurance. The management cares about their employees and helps them with professional development.

    Cons

As with any large corporation, communication between employees can be difficult. But other than minor issues with that, this is a great company.

I have been working at Unum Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - approachable executives and management - thorough training program and mentoring of new employees - excellent benefits, including those for domestic partners - competitive pay - employee discounts in local area and on cellular service - quality cafeteria staffed by Aramark - community-centric company, so ample opportunity for volunteer and donation matching - laptop provided (in some positions) allowing to work at home - nearby parking garages where finding a spot is never an issue - willing to relocate you in other areas as opposed to you leaving the company

    Cons

    - not the most up-to-date technology, sometimes runs slowly - large company, so you won't know everyone - dealing with some irate customers

    Advice to Management

Easier said than done to update technology platforms, but that is my only advice for improvement

I worked at Unum Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very relaxed work environment, low stress, lots of vacation and extracurricular activities to explore, opportunities for job growth

    Cons

Lots of hierarchy, a handful of goody two shoes and insurance is boring; old school, traditional, very conservative

    Advice to Management

Embrace change, enact new ways of thinking instead of perpetuating age old ways of doing business, listen to your heart, take a 50% cut in pay (executives)
