  3. Uninspireing, OK if you can keep your head low. Driven by reaction to crises instead of proactive management.

I have been working at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

A decent "job" with average salary/benefits.

    Cons

Poor management culture. Management is very top heavy. This filters down as an inability to make proactive decisions as no one wants to stick thier neck out or appear to step on anyones toes. Incessant knee jerk reactions lead to unclear and often contradictory policies. A classic "dilbert" enviorment. Can be very discourageing as one is often in a no win situation. Very poor training.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trim your management staff. Simplify your policies and goals. Invest in real training of staff. Stop the lip service/minimum necessary to get by (on paper) attitude.

    Pros

True teamwork, collaboration among staff and physicians, access to all specialties, tuition reimbursement, salary and benefits are competitive, free parking and shuttle, and excellent group of people to work with.

    Cons

Growing pains of a once small community hospital that is expanding in a good way.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to communicate with people closest to the patients.
