I found my time to be frustrating

Special Relationship Manager (Former Employee) Newton, MA

ProsGood people to work with. Everyone was friendly. The cafeteria was good

ConsThere were not enough opportunities to raise up through the company ranks. Also the pay was poor to very poor. While the people were all good, hard working people, morale was low due to boring work and low pay.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay better. Offer and investment management aspect of the business. You should not exist as a business, there is no market for a 529 provider that can not manage funds.

Not a place where technology is paramount

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Newton, MA

ProsGreat co-workers, Relaxed atmosphere (for now), Free coffee

ConsPoor Senior Management, Poor communication from Sallie Mae, Poor communication within Sallie Mae, Poor technical direction from Sallie Mae, Lots of departures due to poor management

Advice to Senior ManagementThe direction from Sallie Mae is as poor as poor can be, it needs to improve. When I started as Upromise it was a great place. Sallie Mae has negatived that great things about Upromise.

    No leadership; No future

Director of Backoffice (Current Employee) Newton, MA

Proscasual work environment, incredibly amazing people, strong mission wanting to change the way that families pay for college, feel good work

Conslittle or no plans for the future, marketing leadership virtually non-existent, absolute lack of support from Sallie Mae, Upromise's parent company.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a serious look at your marketing team as there's lots of favoritism but not a lot in the way of talent. Marketing used to be the backbone of Upromise but it is no longer.

    Don't Do It!

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Newton, MA

ProsThere are some very passionate individuals working for Upromise striving towards the end goal of helping families save and pay for college. They love what they do and have been with the organization for many years.

Upromise does tuition reimbursement at 5k a year. Relatively flexible schedule.

ConsThe acquisition by Sallie Mae changed the culture of the organization. There have been numerous layoffs over the years Mamy star employees have voluntarily moved on from the organization leaving chaos behind.

The health care benefits are terrible.

Advice to Senior ManagementCommunicate with employees about what's going on. Improve the health care benefits and develop better project process to get things done.
