Young Staff Means You Have To Constantly Do Double Work

    Account Manager (Former Employee)
    Chicago, IL

ProsFun work environment. Good place for entry level employees. Creative/Production teams has good work-life balance with comp. days/time off.

ConsLow pay and few growth opportunities. Values the loudest voice in the room and the consistent drinker. Employees can be clicky at times. Account team is extremely under appreciated and not compensated adequately.

Advice to Senior ManagementHave more confidence in the creative and dont be so reactionary. When a client complains, its important to understand the issue before trying to solve it.

Great Place if You Don't Care About Your Career Development

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGood starting place for younger people out of college, variety of work, and great benefits

ConsPay is low, poor management skills of upper management team. They don't really have the processes in place to recognize and promote talent. Favorites get best project work, managers and above talk the talk but don't really follow through on helping grow a persons career, people on the bench who have skills that can be used elsewhere but nobody takes the time to find out their skillset, people are ridiculed, have bad nicknames for staff members.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake time to learn about your employees, don't put people in management roles because you like them but because they earn it and know about their discipline and practice area.

Very young staff means a lot of gaps in work quality

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsLeadership is calm, cool and collected. They are patient and kind and treat employees with respect.

ConsThis is a very traditional agency that doesn't seem interested in cultivating a digital clientele. The employees here skew very, very young and the pay is very, very below average, even if you don't fall into that young demographic.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire more digitally minded people and pursue that market more aggressively. Also upgrade the pay scale, particularly for more experienced hires.

Out with the old, in with the old

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

Pros- Young environment with lots of fresh faced, inspiring employees.
    - Easy to make friends.
    - Opportunity to take ownership and responsibility for your work/projects.
    - Good holiday schedule and vacation days roll over.

    Cons- Low pay
    - Stuck in old ways of doing things because management has been the same for so long.

Advice to Senior ManagementLearn from your employees that haven't been at the agency their entire career. There are other, better ways of doing things. Commit to solving problems the right way and stop getting stuck in the past or placating to the lifers.

    Good, small sized agency

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Chicago, IL

ProsUpshot has a good work culture that brings out the best in people. They company is large enough to take on some large, global clients yet small enough that you can know everyone that works there. The creative work is strategically based and the staff is brought into the creative process throughout. This is the kind of place you hope to find after cutting your teeth at the big shops around town.

ConsBeing smaller, they can't offer the same financial compensation as the big agencies. Some of the management are older agency veterans that can't seem to shake the old way of doing things. It's a hard place to get hired into unless you know someone. Once hired you have to really direct your own career. You will have to learn how to manage upwards and make sure you are constantly top-of-mind with the important decision makers.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more nimble thinking in regards to staffing and process. Get involved in the trenches and not just rely on a select group to let you know what is going on with the employees.
