Pros
I like fashion so I thought working in that field would suit me. I love the store itself.
Cons
It's really chaotic to be an employee there. We were never organized, our managers lack back bone, and often are unsociable.
Advice to Senior Management
Support your team, set a better example on leadership and work ethic, don't just hire people because they look cool/unique...hire based off of ambition you see
Pros
Good benefits, vacation days, Great discount
Cons
Over worked Underpaid, unfair favorites. Promotion based on frienship
Advice to Senior Management
Stop promoting based on favortism. Stop firing based on favortism. Liking a employee personally has nothing to do with their job performace.
Pros
Urban had the potential to be great. My DM was awesome and had a lot to teach and I learned a lot about merchandizing. The urban atmosphere is casual and laid back. As a company, they respect their employees personal lives and often give managers an off weekend.
Cons
The SM had the worst attitude. I would easily work a 65 hour week while the SM would barely work 40 and would sit in the office her entire shift.
I would come in on my days off for store meetings and would be constantly closing because the other managers weren't capable of doing a perfect close. Write ups were given often, in a negative and often distructive way. The store manager and merchandizing manager would gang up on employees and the vibe in my store was particularly negative.
Advice to Senior Management
DMs need to be more involved with their SMs and training needs to be more streamline.
Pros
-40% discount
-Awesome co-workers
-Great music/environment
-You don't have to capture emails, phone numbers or get people to apply for credit cards
-Opportunities for advancement as long as you work hard and demonstrate leadership
-The customers are rarely ghetto or rude, the Urban customer is generally educated/cultured
Cons
-Regular retail problems
-The store can get messy, but you know that signing up for the job, aka it is your job to clean up
-Only 25% off housewares
Pros
Super flexible schedule, I work with really cool people, awesome discount.
Cons
Pay sucks, got terrible hours.
Advice to Senior Management
Treat all employees the same. Managers have obvious favorites.
Pros
good benefits ,cool people, inspiration trips
Cons
pay could be better
workload is huge
there is somewhat a lot of favoritism amongst management
when coloring you have to stay within the lines.
Pros
An extremely inspiring and creative place to work. I love the casual work environment: it's laid back and casual yet serious in that everyone I have dealt with has been extremely talented and driven. Great benefits and perks. My skill set, speed and ingenuity has increased drastically since I started working at URBN.
Cons
First and foremost inadequate compensation for junior level positions, especially in comparison to mid to higher level positions and comparable positions in other companies. There is no HR department. In my particular department I have a bad manager who has no oversight or accountability, but this is also the only person who will determine my growth in the company.
Pros
Discount.
Dress how you feel.
Meeting interesting people.
Cons
No clear career path.
Favoritism on all levels.
Insulting pay rates/salaries.
Advice to Senior Management
Work here while you're in college if you want; Wouldn't plan on a "career" with this place. They'll use you like a work horse, then if you step out of line once, run late, have a life that's outside of urban - you get black listed.. No promotions, no hours, no respect. They have ways of driving people out of their company who don't drink the kool-aid. Some days, you'll feel like you work in a lumber yard. Other days, you feel like you work at a sweat shop factory. Upper mgmt pretends to care, but all they're looking for are empty vessels who can't think on their own, to fill with empty promises and endless/pointless tasks and "responsibilities".
Pros
opportunity to grow with company
company likes promoting within the company
discount
Cons
pay is less than most other retail company
Pros
The people and friendly nature of the company is great. As UO is still a relatively new and small company within retail in Europe it is still going through changes.
The creativity and innovative nature of the company makes it one of the best places to work within fashion retail at the moment.
Cons
The salaries are not the best in the market and often as there is no formal training employees with the same job may find themselves with different levels of skill and ability. Promotions are fair and are given based on credit and time worked there.
