I worked at Utah Retirement Systems full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

If you want to learn and build skills at low salary ,this is the place to go.If you are incompetent and want some salary rather than staying jobless, this is the place to go - hard reality..good place to work in insurance and other areas where there is not much demand..but in software, you are throwing away money and time by working here unless you need a temporary break..

    Cons

Low salary, politics all around,no raise ,false promises of raise by managers to maximize your stay..backward thinking people being in Utah state..incompetent workers...specially managers..nothing new to learn..big salary cut if you are moving from private sector at cost of steady hours..

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change managers..all old and unwise people with more interest in personal life of coworkers and gossiping..

I worked at Utah Retirement Systems full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Stable, great state benefits, on-site gym, paid time to exercise, incentives to get healthy, free parking, covered parking as it becomes available, good insurance

    Cons

No why to move up or out of your current position, hard to cross-over to another position, some managers can be "stuck in the past" with old ways of thinking, people tend to stay so moving around is very difficult, reviews are set up in a way that makes it hard to receive a good one, salary is lower than mid stream or the private sector which is why the benefits are good. Raises depend on the economy. I was there for six years and only saw one raise across the board for everyone. No matter how well your review everyone gets 2%.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to those under a manager. If more than one person is complaining or has the same concern, then maybe it is worth looking into.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Positive Outlook
