    Pros

    Flexible around your class schedule.

    Cons

Not a lot of days off and the pay doesn't cover much in the way of student expenses/living expenses.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay living wage, and that's advice for the federal govt. not you guys.

I worked at Utah Valley University as an intern (more than a year)

    Pros

As a student you are already on campus so it is easy to get to work.
My particular job on campus helped me develop my resume and marketing portfolio.
The department is still using the branding and materials I created in 2013.

    Cons

Remember this is an educational institution and is not concerned with ROI which leaves a gap when a student transitions to working full time after graduation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hold your departments to your budgets and teach the students to do the same.

I worked at Utah Valley University full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Very friendly, easy going, a lot of activities around campus that one can get involved in. I was able to take a class during my work shift.
Benefits such as vacations, holidays, tuition... can't beat those anywhere else.

    Cons

Hard to move up the ladder. I quickly moved up two positions, but once I was in that position I was stuck and moving to other departments is almost impossible.
Salaries are very low. They expect someone with a Master degree to start at $37,000?

I have been working at Utah Valley University

    Pros

Somewhat flexible schedule has allowed me to work 25-30 hours a week while taking light load of college classes. I had the opportunity to be promoted to work as a FT database specialist. The atmosphere at work was very casual, friendly and a quite a bit of office lunches, employee luncheons etc. I feel I am valued there as an employee. I loved the tuition benefit that's available.

    Cons

Parking is difficult sometimes. The position wasn't a very exciting one. Lower wages are compensated by other benefits available.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Really none.

    Pros

Working at the alumni house came along with many perks, including lots of delicious free food leftovers!

    Cons

Having to sit at computer all day long got old after a while, but hey... It's a job!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I can only speak for the management working at the Alumni House on campus. To the staff there, keep up the good work, you guys were great!

I have been working at Utah Valley University part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of agreeable people to work with.
The leaders of the English Department provide some informal training on how to teach, in the form of four one-hour seminars each semester.
As long as you are a positive, encouraging teacher, the Eng Dept isn't too critical about how you teach your classes.
If you have trouble with students who cause problems in class, the Eng Dept is very supportive of teachers and helps them work through problems with troublesome students.

    Cons

No offices are provided for adjunct teachers, so meeting with students outside the classroom can be a problem.
Most of my students come to the Intermediate Writing classes I teach with very little mastery of grammar, syntax, or organizational skills, almost as if they have not passed English 1010. It's like having a classroom full of failing students, who don't take good notes and seem not to even think about writing except when they are in the classroom. The students seem interested in only getting a good grade, not in learning to improve their writing skills.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide tests that students must pass with acceptably good scores before they can sign up for an Intermediate Writing course.
Provide adjunct teachers with at least a carrel in which to meet students.

    Pros

Get weekends and all federal holidays off.

    Cons

Never getting raises. Its impossible to get raises. I would recommend asking for a higher wage in the interview cause you won't see a raise.
