I have been working at VACCO full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

VACCO has some really interesting projects from space to navy applications. For the most part, everyone is very nice, helpful and easy to get along with. As a small company, there are many opportunities to learn very quickly.

    Cons

Management is extremely disconnected from those on the floor. Some do not take the time to understand what is going on and to relate the their employees which is causing resentment. They are a company that is trying to break into bigger business, but is not looking ahead to put systems in place to accommodate the larger business and this is also putting a strain on the relationship between the people on the floor and management. The president needs to open his eyes or get replaced for real change to benefit this company.

    Advice to Management

Understand the nuances of what is happening on the floor and what you are asking for. Understand the needs and concerns of your employees and listen to them to help grow the company. Management needs a system in place to be held accountable just as all the employees themselves are held accountable.

I worked at VACCO full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good pay, industry standard. Cool people, most will support any and all efforts. Great VP of Operations. Only 2 years in, but lot's of good changes. 4 day work weeks, for most

    Cons

Old culture, currently going through massive transitions. Resistant to change, heritage parts and methods. Need a lot of improvement with director level down management, employee support, team building.

    Advice to Management

A complete review of how management functions, treats their people, and manages their operations and people.

I have been working at VACCO full-time

    Pros

You get to work with great people who are working with the right attitude. Engineering department in particular is leading the way in keeping the right culture. They have a decent bonus package relative to other companies. Location and a 4 day work week is also a pro for this company

    Cons

Too much bureaucracy for a small company. 4 day work week can turn into 5 very easily if its not monitored. Constant organizational changes. Outdated processes and infrastructure. People generally set in their ways and a lot of efforts go unnoticed or unappreciated.

    Advice to Management

Be genuinely interested in changing middle / upper management. Trust your employees and their experience. Stay connected to real issues at ground level.

    Cons

Needs new management change, too much back-stabbing and only self recognition if your a manger or director.

    Advice to Management

    Clean-up your back yard !

I worked at VACCO full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great President, and many people that take the success of the company personally

    Cons

upper management squabbles that are very apparent to employees lower in the chain. outdated processes. mid-management bottlenecks and skullduggery. Atmosphere created by mid-management is more CYA (cover your A**) in comparison to lets recognize a problem and develop a solution.

    Advice to Management

Be open with what you know and work with the other managers. Kaison events can be beneficial but they really should have members of each department to get input as to how each department is/can be affected.
