    Pros

Great opportunity to learn and get hands-on, fast-paced experience...opportunity to help animals in need.

    Cons

Under-appreciated, salary does not equate with job responsibilities, management is not efficient in handling complaints or resolving issues

    Pros

I love being able to work with animals all day, working in the boarding kennels is great.

    Cons

The days are long, 10 hours. No breaks except a 30 minute lunch and the kennel people have no access to seating so we have to stand and walk around for the entire 10 hours. The schedule is set which is nice but I wish it was managed better. Working 6 ten hour shifts before you get a day off isn't how the 4/10 system was meant to work. Also, I've notice since VCA took over (we were previously veterinary run) that money is the biggest concern instead of client relations or the well being of the animals. We aren't allowed to work overtime and get in big trouble if we wind up getting even an hour of overtime pay and even the clients have noticed a change in the way things are handled now that vca is running the show.

    Advice to Management

    None

    Pros

Advancement opportunity, great supervisor, and I really felt well liked and appreciated by all.

    Cons

Not very family friendly: it was a 24 hour facility, and I would sometimes get called in in the middle of the night. It was hard to get time off, and couldn't always leave when you needed to.

    Advice to Management

More positivity. I was lucky and well liked, but it seemed like new employees were being watched for failure rather than set up for success.

    Pros

Local offices are good, and Ver care is very good.

    Cons

Pricing structure for clients is set given the surrounding community's average income. If the clinic happens to be in an affluent area, the price tier will be high. VCA is big business, and some of their practices and policies reflect this.

    Pros

75% discount on most services for up to 4 pets for full time employees. Talented veterinarians.

    Cons

Ridiculous schedules, always understaffed and over worked, angry clients, poor communication between staff, terrible medical benefits, high stress high stress high stress! Management promises but doesn't deliver, high turnover, staffing levels too low to allow for proper training of new hires, disgruntled staff.

    Advice to Management

Good luck working under VCA. Fight for your employees. Staffing levels are much to low for any employee to thrive. Burn out is unavoidable unless major changes are made.
