I have been working at VF full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

VF is a fiscally smart company with a positive culture that encourages creativity. With average to above-average performance, advancement is almost a certainty, especially if you are a man.

    Cons

Can be a little "cult-like" at times. People don't talk about controversy or give candid feedback. Employees leave (or are asked to leave) and no one will discuss it. Also, the company is sometimes so cheap that you don't even have the bare minimum resources to do your job well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create more opportunities for women and encourage open, honest, and direct communication among employees and their managers.

I have been working at VF full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

PTO days, health benefits and work life balance are good.

    Cons

Nautical furnishings sales dept. is the worst group of sales people I have worked with in the 11 years I worked in this industry. To sum it up they are the most lazy overpaid Account Executives with base saaries of approx. 100k!! There was zero partnership and accountability!! It became a very frustrating experience.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Needs to look at the Account Executive role and responsibilities in this division because writing orders and shopping online all day does not warrent a salary of 100k while other depts carry a serious workload for a 3rd of the salary.

I have been working at VF

    Pros

The people you get the opportunity to work with.

    Cons

Most promotional opportunities will be at the other VF locations where relocation is necessary to move up.

I worked at VF full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Awesome people and brands. Ability to wear jeans every day a plus. Culture at brands far better than at corporate. Corporate could be a wonderful place to work -- likely best for someone early in career who will move on after a few years.

    Cons

As one exec told me, "We talk a good game and then always cheap out." Resources (budget and people) hard to come by for support functions, except finance. This leads to extremely outdated and ineffective infrastructure. Decentralized to the point of not having effective processes in place. Extremely cordial culture hides an extremely passive-aggressive undertones/practices. Very limited growth potential; not a good environment for female professionals. Earnings are all that matters. Huge gap between what leadership says and does. Bottom line, positive earnings releases hide many issues that need attention.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Culture eats strategy for breakfast. Don't push loyal people to the point where they don't care any more. Don't take too much comfort in the culture survey. You'd be surprised (if you care) how many employees are already there.

I have been working at VF full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

VF has an overall positive environment. The employees are wonderful to work with on any given day. There is opportunity to expand your own job beyond today's responsibilities. Work-life balance is normally not an issue. Love the dress code and product discounts are always a plus. Pay is not an issue. I think VF pays well & I am appreciated for the time/dedication given.

    Cons

Communication from management down does not always occur in a timely fashion. The ability to purchase from international brands would also be nice.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend time with the employees, even if just coming into the Cafe for an impromptu bite of lunch. It is amazing what can be learned just from interacting with various groups in an informal setting.

I have been working at VF full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great work environment that has many perks such as casual dress. Enthusiasm for the company is shared by co-workers. Direct management takes time to listen and help direct you to the best decision. Opportunities are offered to learn and grow professionally. This is an international company that offers a variety of work responsibilities and new challenges.

    Cons

Communication from corporate to the correct people is beyond lacking. The people who actually run the business need to know about changes that directly affect our day to day operations. Also, because VF is such a large international corporation the smaller locations tend to get lost in the shuffle. We sometimes feel forgotten if we don't work at the Corporate location.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate to your employees and empower us with knowledge!
