I have been working at VISANOW full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Working at VISANOW has been my first "real" job, and I can't imagine a better place to have accepted an offer right out of college. Pros include:

-management that sincerely cares about the well-being and professional development of their employees
-transparency in company policies and open communication
-work environment that promotes and fosters motivation and continued learning
-expertly designed product that everyone at the company is on board with
-impressive, company-wide work ethic and seriously awesome coworkers
-great benefits package/benefits options to choose from
    -unlimited coffee (and tea/snacks)

Best thing? The ability to actually improve the legal services experience for our clients through a combined team effort.

    Cons

Having an open mind to learning lots of information is essential--it can definitely feel overwhelming at the beginning. Hard work and a positive attitude pay off!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hold onto/reward the talent that has helped VISANOW rise through the ranks over the years, and keep on hiring people that are willing to be positive and put in the effort to help the company grow--great things are happening!

Good place to gain experience, no career advancement opportunites

Current Employee - Legal in Chicago, IL
Current Employee - Legal in Chicago, IL

I have been working at VISANOW full-time

    Pros

    - High case volume per paralegal/attorney affords a great deal of case preparation experience in a short period of time
    - Colleagues are helpful and friendly
    - Free coffee, snacks (unhealthy ones), and tea
    - High turnover rate creates opportunities to work with large clients

    Cons

    - Very limited career advancement opportunities as there is no profit-sharing or partnership track available
    - Legal team is generally discouraged from building their own book of business
    - Legal team is generally underpaid per market rates and saddled with a case load that is overwhelming based on industry standards, which leads to a "sweatshop" type atmosphere
    - Very few opportunities to learn the skill of client acquisition and building a book of business, which really hurts longterm professional growth
    - The office is rather dark with decor right out of the 1980's
    - Due to high turnover rates, there are no senior legal team members with more than 3-4 years of experience to really learn from. Most of the attorneys are fresh out of law school with very little legal knowledge.
    - Due to high turnover rates, junior legal team members are moved into senior positions well before they have the experience and knowledge to properly handle the responsibilities
    - Management generally values efficiency and speed over quality legal representation, attention to detail, and the proper handling of ethical issues that pertain to client representation
    - Legal management has very little immigration knowledge and lacks practice-based experience, which leads to managerial decisions that are often at odds with the ethical responsibilities attorneys must adhere to
    - Management doesn't really invest in growing their attorney's skills
    - Even senior legal team members work in small cubicles with very little desk space
    - Generally, the legal team is viewed as a cost center that is to be minimized whenever possible
    - A lot of the case preparation has now been outsourced to India, which has placed even more stress on senior legal staff as they're now responsible for fixing low quality preparation work
    - Legal team is micromanaged by management, which can hamper the autonomy that is necessary to best represent clients
    - Management generally pays attention to the wrong details when assessing employee performance
    - Management fails to invest in hardware/software upgrades that are badly needed until the very last minute, which caused internet and mail server failures on several occasions

The structure of the company is very confusing and sometimes not clearly defined as legal employees work for VISANOW P.C., and the the rest of the employees work for VISANOW.com, Inc. However, the two entities operate as one cohesive company, with shared benefits packages, computers, managerial directives, and office space.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay more attention to employee needs and ethical considerations, improve compensation rates, and hire more legal staff to account for the overwhelming workload. Fix the turnover issue to provide better more experienced legal representation to clients. Move more competent, experienced individuals into middle and upper management roles to eliminate the "yes" man culture.

I have been working at VISANOW full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Big investment from a top VC firm that has made lots of quality changes such as increased salaries, better commission structure, and better overall structuring of the organization.
The company invests so much into each one of their employees and makes sure that we are being taken care of and our voices heard.
    Brand new office early 2015.
Great team atmosphere and culture - we do lunch n learns, happy hours, monthly contests, catered lunches every Wednesday for the sales team, etc.
Upper management keeps everybody in the loop for the most part and they always get the employees opinions and feedback to make sure they are doing the best thing for everyone.

    Cons

It is a small office so there is some drama every now and then but other than there really aren't a lot of negatives.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to invest in your people and making positive changes. Make sure that you continue to reward those who are doing well. Management is sometimes too lenient on those who are not performing and let them drag the organization down as a whole.

Immigration Attorney: Great place to learn the ropes but no career growth opportunities

    • Comp & Benefits
    • Work/Life Balance
    • Senior Management
    • Culture & Values
    • Career Opportunities
Former Employee - Attorney in Chicago, IL
Former Employee - Attorney in Chicago, IL

I worked at VISANOW full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

VISANOW provides an unparalleled opportunity to attorneys to learn the basics of immigration. Due to the tremendous volume of case work that attorneys handle, attorneys have the opportunity to master the preparation of common case types, such as H-1B, L-1, TN, and Green Card PERM. VISANOW also has a diverse client base in terms of company size and industry type granting tremendous exposure to a variety of situations.

    Benefits are generous:
    - 401(k) 1.5% match
    - free coffee and snacks
    - good health coverage
    - dental coverage
    - vision coverage
    - reimbursement for some professional associations, licenses, and continuing education

Due to high turnover, attorneys get advanced opportunities here at a more junior stage compared to attorneys at other firms.

The legal team members (with the exception of management) are extremely collegial and very supportive of one another. The atmosphere is one of teamwork and not cut-throat.

There are sufficient resources available to perform research and accomplish necessary tasks.

ViSANOW provides a clean and bright office space.

    Cons

The pay has historically been pretty mediocre and standards for getting a raise were inconsistent at best and often the management lied about when a raise could be earned. I started at a salary of $45,000 and was promised a raise to $55,000 in 6-12 months. My first raise was to $47,500 after 9 months despite these initial promises.

Attorneys generally work 55-60 hours per week for relatively low compensation. In February and March, when the company is busiest, attorneys can expect to work 70-80 hours per week. Last March I was working from 8am-7pm in the office and from 9pm-11pm at night, plus 10 or more hours on weekends.

The high volume of case work turns the environment into an immigration case widget factory.

The company has tremendous turnover on its legal staff leading to extremely junior leadership. The average tenure of an attorney is under three years, which means there is limited opportunity to learn from experienced attorneys.

The legal team is managed by individuals who do not practice law and therefore their decisions often do not reflect the realities of practice or are out-of-touch with best practices for attorneys. Moreover, it feels like the only managers that succeed are yes men, which leads to troubling management practices at times.

Attorneys are not valued or sufficiently appreciated by the management team. Attorneys are afforded respect by non-management colleagues in the company.

There is a confusing ownership structure. The lawyers technically work for a separate law firm, VISANOW, PC, which is owned by the CEO of VISANOW, Inc. The two companies functionally operate as one.

There is limited opportunity to learn the finer points of lawyering in terms of maintaining client relationships and providing advice to clients.

I have been working at VISANOW full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

-Work environment is amazing. No drama, everyone is super nice and easy to get along with, and the management staff is excellent.
-Benefits: If you work hard, you are appreciated above and beyond. Simple as that! Not to mention the frequent company sponsored happy hours, dinners, parties, and lunches. The amount of free food and drinks I have received while working at VISANOW is ridiculous!
-Medical and dental benefits are great. Super affordable and HR Manager is always there to answer any questions you have about any of the benefits you receive.
-Caring and goal oriented management. All the managers I have works with/for at VISANOW have always been caring and haven taken a high interest in making sure I succeed in every aspect of my career. I have learned more from these individuals in one year than some people may learn in 10 years on the job!
-So much growth potential. VISANOW as a company, is on the rise and will be growing extremely quickly in the coming months.

    Cons

I do not really have any cons although I can offer some advice to anyone who is considering a job at VISANOW. The management staff and company in general, puts a lot of time, energy, and funding into each employee who joins VISANOW in order to train them and make sure they are prepared for their new position. Therefore, make sure you are committed to this company and it's goals/values before you jump on board.

I worked at VISANOW full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

-Good benefits (Free snacks, coffee, tea, soda. health, dental, vision, 401k, etc)
-Office is in great location in River North.
    -Culture and co-workers are excellent.
    -Relaxed dress code.
    -BYOB Friday's.
-Product is innovative and unique, interesting to discuss.
-You will learn a great deal about immigration, if that sort of thing interests you.
-Company is growing in and should continue to do so for foreseeable future.
-Great place to learn about and experience the entirely of the sales process, perfect for entry-level applicants.

    Cons

-Not for anyone career-oriented as the internal growth opportunities in sales are non-existent.
-Low base pay coupled with poorly structured commission and long sales-cycle (4+ months for a new account) translates into extremely limited earning potential.
-You will lose all your accounts on January 1st of each year and have to start essentially from scratch.
-Management, although friendly and clearly concerned with their employees, can offer very little to empower anyone due to poor training and not being empowered themselves to actually make any real decisions.
-Extremely high turnover on sales floor creates a hectic, unfocused environment.
-Sales floor is treated and feels like a call center.
-Low morale and negativity are rampant and the root-cause (lack of compensation and growth) is never addressed despite almost bi-monthly morale meetings.
-Aspects completely out of your control (fake resume, criminal background, mistakes by legal team) will be counted against you and will take money out of your pocket.
-Company is currently anticipating and preparing for extensive growth for past several years, but are unsure of how to adapt correctly leading to an "experimental phase." This is encouraging for the companies future outlook, but unfortunately not for current employees as this process is slow, tedious, and with few beneficial changes being implemented.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create real growth opportunities in sales, and offer a more competitive base salary/commission structure to attract more experienced sales associates. High turnover is more expensive than offering a competitive salary, and the company will benefit from a more seasoned salesforce.

Very friendly, up-beat culture. If you work hard, it will pay off! There's a ton of opportunity for growth here. It's important to keep a positive mindset and to be open to feedback from management, they won't steer you wrong. There are fun company outings and parties on a regular basis. If you are committed to learning and developing, you will excel here! It's all about your work ethic.

    Cons

Not really a con but, there will be lots of information you will need to learn to be able to successfully sell. So, be ready for that!

I have been working at VISANOW full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

VISANOW is a great company to work for. The company's core values say a lot about what we are working towards and the culture that is important here. We look for individuals that are passionate, hard working, energetic, and ready to grow.

I have seen it many times, that good things come to people that work hard here at VISANOW.

I think that the management team is wonderful. They have wonderful insights, are always willing to provide feedback, coaching, and advice, which helps us all grow professionally.

VISANOW cares about its employees and really does take care of us. I feel that the pay is great, especially the commission structure. As a sales person, if you come to work and do what your suppose to and work hard, you'll do great. The benefits (health, dental, vision ,401K) are outstanding.

    Cons

This is not a company where you can get hired and get away with under performing. A lot of these negative glass door reviews come from disgruntled employees that under performed and decided that they did not want to be open to coaching and training and development.

If you work hard at VISANOW, accept the guidance and coaching from management and peers, you will be successful here. If you prefer to come to work and spend your days on Facebook and email, then you wont be successful. I just wish that those ex-employees would take more ownership and accountability for their own actions.

I worked at VISANOW full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Some of the people you work with are great and you form a bond. Free coffee, drinks and snacks. Managers are nice but don't really help.

    Cons

If you are straight out of college or have been unemployed for a while this is the perfect job for you. The base is extremely low 30k and the commission structure is a joke. Might as well not have one and they have a restart in the beginning of the year so all the companies you worked so hard to get you will lose and get no commission on after December. The managers are pretty good and care about their team and try to help as much as possible. The VP of sales has a big ego and looks down on you. He will never tell you something good he is never satisfied with your work even on a great selling day. He would just say well tell me how you could have made it better. You don't feel any kind of stability and you are always in for a surprise. Some of the more senior sales reps are annoying

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Raise the base for better quality people and so that the good sales people you have don't leave to go somewhere else. Change the commission structure because currently it only benefits a few people and the company
