Pros
Management and team leaders are very flexible and understanding.
Very good communication. And also very supportive ! ! ! When a project is over they always find you a new one to do ! ! !
And the pay for the overtime is really good ! ! !
Cons
Sometime shifts may be irregular ! ! ! Depending on the project we have to finish very late at night.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep doing a great job ! ! ! VMC Consulting has a very good leadership and a very good communication inside the company.
Pros
You're allowed to work independently and do your job. There is no micro-management and the on-site management doesn't watch over your shoulder at all. It's assumed that you know your job. In my case, I do have a good boss who will find resources for me when I reach the end of my own resources. My boss does look for ways to make us more useful to the company where we are consulting.
Cons
This company operates like a temp agency; they are not a true consulting company. There is no reward for achievement and upper management doesn't have any intention of investigating how to make it better. I've been in my job for 7 years; one co-worker has been in his position for over 10 years. We stay because there are very few other opportunities locally and we don't want to move to another city. The clients of the company have long term positions for which they don't want to hire permanent employees.
Advice to Senior Management
How about profit sharing? How about better benefits for those who are long term employees? When you have an employee for over 5 years, can't you find a way to compensate them for long term service?
Pros
provides some flexible work scheduling
Cons
on call equals cattle call
Advice to Senior Management
cattle call
Pros
I don't have much to say about the upsides. I guess the company that you're contracted to can be nice.
Cons
VMC excels in creating superfluous senior managers. the executive management team delegates 100% of all responsibilities to middle management and then reward middle managers for dumping that work off onto others as well.
All reports are done buy the, knowledgeable, staff and then passed off as word preformed but the management team.
Advice to Senior Management
pay attention to your employees! they are the ones that make you look good to the company that you are preforming work for.
When you say you are going to do 1:1's with everyone, every month.. DO IT! and listen.
Pros
Had the ability to grab major contracts for big software companies.
Could set up a test lab with very short notice
Hired great people... who would get noticed and be lured away
Cons
Poor communication from Management in what their expectations are.
Treat Game Testers like cattle - called them "The Green Hairs"
Advised by many not lo list VMC on resume as a Full Time Employee; say you were a Contractor or it would be the kiss of death for any interview.
Pros
Pay on time, great project managers.
Cons
Communication on at project site.
Advice to Senior Management
So far so good.
Pros
Quarterly Bonus Scheme
Quarterly Performance Reviews
Service Large Enterprise Accounts
Cons
HR Department is political and lacks professionalism at IC level
Executive Leadership Team lacks integrity
Toxic work environment
Executive Leadership Team not really open to innovation --- prefers the Status Quo unless they think of it themselves
Don't understand how to build a strategic consulting company
Sales Force with the exception of the VP of Sales are harvesters vs. hunters
Advice to Senior Management
Take a good look in the mirror and see if you can see a person extremely biased by your emotional, self serving view of the world
Pros
The advantages: gaining good working experience. Adding great experience to your resume.
Cons
Very political company. It's more about "who you're friends with" than "how competent or productive" you are.
Advice to Senior Management
Competent and productive employees are a bonus to have in a company.
Pros
Great people, interesting work, easy to make small decisions. Staffing for project was easy to come by in most cases. Flexible work hours (within reason) for my particular role.
Cons
Disparate corporate goals, or so it seemed, lack of implementation of evangelized processes, checks and balances. A strong 'get forgiveness instead of permission' work style within the middle and lower ranks.
Advice to Senior Management
Perhaps more transparency into why some of the more weighty decisions are made. A vacuum only let's people fill in the blank on their own which isn't healthy. Bright people are hired, so duping them isn't wise either. Accountability should be respected, not paid lip service, otherwise those bright employees will find their way out.
Pros
VMC had the ability to collect some highly talented engineers to work with.
Cons
Inadequate communication between management levels. Lack of trust by lower level employees due to early mismanagement.
Advice to Senior Management
Set up an independant review of the organization. Problems were reported frequently but never made it past lower levels of management.
