Pros
No.1 of Cloud and Virtualization
Cons
Promotion and others are not equal
Advice to Senior Management
Middle managers not equal to all engineers, for promotions, awards and so on
Pros
VMware still fosters open communication, although senior management don't seem to be listening. Despite the management bloat, innovation still happens.
Cons
The focus on paper education over actual ability is infuriating. It seems that everyone who makes Director or above did so simply because they have an MBA. Conference calls tend to sound like a bad game of buzz word bingo.
Advice to Senior Management
You give out the title Director so frequently that it has started to lose value. Stop letting HR determine titles to justify salaries.
Pros
Interesting technologies
Nice office and environment
Cons
Salary used to be good but the company does not provide share options anymore. The salary has also been cut in some positions lately.
A lot of management issues:
- The job presented during the interview is far away from the reality
- This is partly due to constant reorganizations of the teams and jobs
- No training in place except of a computer based training, do not expect any help from colleagues and even less from managers. Most of them don’t have a clue.
- Some sales managers have very little knowledge of the company structure.
- No team spirit (1 team meeting in the last 6 months)
- Employees are totally out of the decision making process. Improvement suggestions are not welcomed.
- No employee empowerment, no personal development path
- In order to grow up the ladder, you need to know the right person; unfortunately the intelligence or hard working behaviours are no success factor there.
- Incredible turnover (e.g.: 75% of a middle-sized team resigned in not even 1 year)
- Despite this high turnover, no corrective action is taken so employees are just trying to cope on a daily basis but their overall career is negatively affected
- No exit interview. Does that mean that the company does not want to improve itself?
- In overall the management is done only by controlling (metrics, KPI monitoring and call control) and threatening. No long term strategy.
No work flexibility, 2 weeks of imposed holiday
Advice to Senior Management
That would be good to listen to your employee’s feedback. Such turnovers are not normal in a company with such technology and corrective actions should be taken in particular on the managers. Some talents have been wasted and are still wasted because of this bad management.
Pros

Cons
for some department, there is no clear career path

2. managers and coworkers are very nice.
3. bright future of VMware
4. innovation and creativity.
Cons
1. The management system are under building, it's not very good to come here as your first jog.
2. Producting process are not formal, all are under building
Advice to Senior Management
Pay more attention on raising efficiency of develope, test and maintaince. Please consider import software projects to achive it.

Some operational issues, and operation a little too small over here
Advice to Senior Management

Cons
Politics at the C, E levels
Advice to Senior Management
Get a clue.
Pros
* talent people
* good work-life balance
* reasonable pay
* interesting project
Cons
* lack of vision how far it will grow in the future
Pros
Best cloud solution and strong executive management vision
Industry potential is almost blue sky and vision is getting clearer and crisper
Great benefits and nice peers
Cons
Limited progression - the local HR prefers to hire outside than promote from within
Limited development opportunities - need progression paths
Poor executive management - as above and why are we planning for next year when I don't even know what we planned to do this current year?
Too many managers and arrogant HR function
Advice to Senior Management
Look after the number one asset in the company - no matter what position
Have more defined progression paths for employees
Less focus on quarterly targets and long term sustainability of our market leadership
HR need to walk the talk - focus on people
Pros
- Great engineers, a lot of smart and very talented people
- Open communication at engineer levels
- Interesting and challenge projects, sense of as part of a big thing
- Feeling of a community
Cons
- Politics all around, especially at senior management levels.
- Too much chaos at Sr. Director to VP level, causing lack of stability to build long term plan/roadmap.
- Fairness in performance evaluation and promotion.
- Brand new senior leadership not trusting front line managers and engineers.
Advice to Senior Management
It used to be a great place to work, with great culture and participation from people. There are a lot of talented people around. Trust people and they can do amazing things when enpowered. Bring the stability back, so that people, both management and engineers, can build their career and can have longer terms product planning.
