I worked at VMware full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great snacks, access to lots of great training material, lots of smart people, depending on which team you end up in the day to day work may be really challenging in a good way.

    Cons

Poor on-boarding process, pay was not competitive, management was not interested in personnel development nor was helpful at the time, going beyond and above did not translate into recognition nor reward.

I have been working at VMware full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Stocked kitchen, great benefits, paid volunteer hours

    Cons

VMware's vision of continuing their start-up culture is lost once you begin to feel like yet another number, high turn-over rate

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Listen to the "little people".

I worked at VMware full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Despite the IT geekiness of VM products as a whole, I've met some really good people who cares for the company and each other as individuals. At VMware, senior mgmt tries hard have programs to recognize and celebrate people's accomplishments.

    Cons

Still a very large company mentality , hard to move fast and implement change.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Move past "war-time" old school way of doing things. Hard to resonate with new generation of employees.

I have been working at VMware

    Pros

the technology vmware delivers is world class and will continue to be valid in customer environments for years to come

    Cons

there appears to be a considerable number of managers from the same company and background which reduces any diversity of thought

I have been working at VMware

    Pros

Hot company, lots of cash coming in the door, lots of things they want to do

    Cons

Politics overtake innovation. There seems to be a layer of management that isn't very intellectual, but are good at talking

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lay off people who are verbose, but lack content knowledge. Make your staff take aptitude tests

I have been working at VMware

    Pros

Cutting edge technology with market leader owned by EMC.
Good compensation plans if you over achieve sales plans

    Cons

Poor communication and training from sales enablement and company marketing.
Executive Management believes marketing is not necessary to sell solutions.
Employees are not treated with respect from management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put more emphasis on team building activities, sales enablement and better compensation plans through the reseller channel.

I have been working at VMware

    Pros

    - Smart, talented engineers.
    - Relatively relaxed pace.
    - Comfortable - nice offices, snacks, drinks, etc.
    - Pride in working for VMware.

    Cons

The projects are like big machines that are driving themselves and the developers, rather than the other way around. As an engineer, you don't design and develop products, you fix bugs and implement features that are informed by the previous version of the product. The teams don't feel like they're working together to build something, more like they're all scrambling to keep a ship afloat.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have developers actually develop. Build teams that actually work together to build things.
