Company expectations for nurses are unmanagable

Registers Nurse, Case Manager (Current Employee)
Glastonbury, CT

I have been working at VNA Healthcare full-time

ProsThe management is friendly and willing to listen to employees, but changes based on employees input are rarely done.

ConsCaseloads are HEAVY. Office is understaffed and scheduling is disorganized. This makes it hard to get your day started and finished in a timely manner. Nurses plan on doing a new admission every day, this takes away from seeing your existing patients.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe honest during interview process, managers give nurses the belief that they will have days completed on time everyday. One manager even tells stories of how when she was in the field during the summers she would go home and hang in the pool with her daughter in the afternoons and go back out to see patients later in the day. This is unrealistic and will never happen !

I enjoyed the opportunity to help people but was a bit disappointed with the politics within the workplace.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at VNA Healthcare full-time for less than a year

ProsOne reason to work at VNA is you get to help all sorts of people that really need your help.

ConsNot always are you treated with respect by patients or your peers. A bit clique.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe clinic needs to treat their employees with more respect because with out them, you could have all the grants in the world but good people are hard to come by.

The unprofessionalism of the supervisory and management staff makes it difficult for new employees to adjust.

Client Services Coordinator (Former Employee)
Cleveland, OH

I worked at VNA Healthcare

ProsGreat pay, great benefits, and in a convenient location near the highway, not far from downtown Cleveland.

ConsOffices are in a crime-ridden, poverty stricken area, no focus on professional behavior in the workplace.

Advice to Senior ManagementOffer the new HHA employees ADEQUATE training and place them in situations where they will succeed. Stop treating the HHAs as a "warm body" on a schedule and then leaving others to have to put the fires out when the HHAs do poorly in the work setting.

Nurses need to take better care of each other

Home Care Nurse (Former Employee)
Glastonbury, CT

I worked at VNA Healthcare

Prosnot sitting at a desk or stuck indoors all day, some flexibility with your work schedule. getting to meet some great patients and families and being able to perform great nursing care one on one

Consexcessive travel, office was very unorganized, I often didnt get my daily patient assignment until late in the am....and even then the office would call my cell and change my assignment mid day without warning. I would see 8-10 patients a day and still have several hours of computer " Homework" every eve for which I didnt get paid for

Advice to Senior Managementway better communication, support, education

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

VNA Home Heathcare is a great place to work!

Registered Nurse (Current Employee)
Roanoke, VA

I have been working at VNA Healthcare

ProsThe management and staff are very supportive of the employees there. It was a great place to work with the best nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, social workers, and home health aides in the area. The pay was good and the opportunity for educational and skill growth was excellent. Yes, it was hard work, but being paid hourly made it worthwhile to commit to. I met many wonderful patients (and some not so wonderful ones) and felt very supported by our organization to do the very best for the patient that could be done. I only resigned because I moved away from the area.

ConsThe worst part of working at VNA was the weather. We had to work no matter what the weather was. It snowed a lot some winters and that made travel slow and treacherous.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep the staff happy and feeling respected and heard.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
