I have been working at VSS Monitoring full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Inline products are still respected in the industry

    Cons

Pending acquisition with NetScout is resulting in zero strategy or development and all decisions are short term focused. Customers, partners and employees have little value to VSS - unless short term revenue is involved. I would not explore any job with this company until the acquisition is complete - at least until September 2015 if not later.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

True lack of vision - its all about the short term and filling pockets of a few at the top.

I worked at VSS Monitoring full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good people to work with. There is room for creativity in getting things done, which might also be a con if you're not sure what you're doing.

    Cons

Management seems to have forgotten how to roll up their sleeves in getting things done. They can't even seem to provide guidance for those needing it but just seem to tell everyone to get it done. Honest conversations with management were difficult. Management either didn't want to discuss or were very confrontational.

I have been working at VSS Monitoring full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits of a big company but learning opportunities like a small company.

Major improvement in process and culture. Very encouraging and non-political environment.

    Cons

:Lots of work ahead and hence need to add more resources

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Add more consistent process to hiring and on boarding. There are lots of confusion in interview process and hiring process.

Backstabbing, cutthroat, hostile. Don't walk, RUN away from this company!

I have been working at VSS Monitoring full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Mixed bag. Halfway decent hourly rate and 401k contributions. My first week, three people quit, very telling, more to follow, either fired or fed-up. Free snacks, healthy and not-so-healthy. Ghetto United Health plan. Great Sunnyvale location; too small building for manufacturing, shipping, receiving, staging and storage purposes. Danaher Business System philosophy, lean and kaizen implementation taking place as of this writing. This is not a start-up company no matter how many people still cling to that thought.

    Cons

Fact: Manufacturing, Operations, and Inventory Control management can best be described as (to quote Bill Safire): Nattering nabobs of negativism. Rather than flag an issue, fix it, and move on, these people breed hostility and foster a culture of blame by focusing on mistakes. Quarter end/month end ramps really up the stress levels of all the good, decent people involved, driven by the above mentioned ops management. Logistics manager in way over his head. No written processes or procedures to speak of. Materials Manager made a beeline for the door. Receiving "associate" emailed his resignation and never looked back. Shipping "Supervisor" doesn't know receiving process and doesn't even know how to desktop ship. Parent company Danaher touts the benefits of higher education but offers little to no educational incentives for "associates". CEO brags internally about retiring at 52 and what a wonderful life he'll have as a high paid company consultant. Fact.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be prepared to pack your bags and move because my prediction is that Danaher will integrate VSS with another, larger opco, sooner rather than later.

I worked at VSS Monitoring full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

They paid well and had high end parties. Good benefits.

    Cons

Two to four people crammed into each office (depending on size of office) with no partitions.
    Hostile, aggressive schedules.
Founders / top management overly focused on frantic pace and no interest in evolving to sane workplace.
Management created competitive situations rather than teamwork.
High turnover of employees, including management.
Procedures nearly non-existent, they would have 'slowed things down too much'.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get out of hyper aggressive startup mode and become a real company. Good people will neither survive nor stay in such employment situation for long. Realize that those who are there for a long time are damaged goods, either because you damaged them or because those are the only types that will stay.
