I have been working at VTech Communications full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great Benefits, Nice people, flexible schedule. Company is debt-free, so financially stable.

    Cons

You're shilling home phones and baby monitors that are defined to generate a stable business. No boundary-pushing here at VTech - gets boring after a while

    Advice to Management

You're doing a great job at running a stable company. As long as you can find sharp people who want nothing more than stability, keep doing the same things.

  2. Great people - leanly staffed

    Pros

Great people. The company is staffed leanly, so there's the opportunity to building up a wealth of experience in multiple areas. You have to wear many hats and work on cross-functional teams, but that keeps things interesting. Management has to trust its employees to get the job done because there just aren't a lot of bodies -- which leads to greater autonomy. And the company pays you what you are worth.

    Cons

The industry itself. Selling landline telephones to retailers isn't the most exciting endeavor. However, there are certainly challenges that require creative thinking, and the company affords you the opportunity to solve such problems.

    Advice to Management

Continue the open dialogue with employees regarding the financial well-being of the company. And don't refer to the layoffs that occurred in 2006 as a "re-engineering." The company has long since overcome that difficult time period, but the employees remember, and don't like the use of that word.

I worked at VTech Communications full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great company and class A products

    Cons

Consumer telephony is naturally declining as fewer homes need the classic home telephone. The company is adding new categories and they have a robust commercial business, unfortunately dwarfed by the CE volume.

    Advice to Management

New products and partnerships can always shape the future. Stay away from mature categories and do more homework. Support your employees. Listen to your field sales force since they are the folks in front of your customers.

    Pros

Nice people overall and the benefits are good.

    Cons

I the pay tends to be on the low end and there are little to no bonuses. This is a Hong Kong company and their business model is different. I would think twice before working for a foreign company again. THere are very limited opportunities to advance in your career.

    Pros

strong visibility accross multiple departments which allows for mobility within the company. culture - open door, respectful communication, benefits, lots of on site benefits (massage, BBQ, etc.)

    Cons

smaller sales/ marketing office for phone sales into SMB, Retail and Hospitality. Often need to step outside normal responsibilities to assist in special projects. Not all processes are defined.

I worked at VTech Communications full-time

    Pros

People are really nice to work with. Not much politics in office. Not much OT for me, work life balance is nice.

    Cons

Poor project management: Always attempt to push and sell unfinished products in the market, and eventually receive poor customers feedback. Poor salary in Hong Kong.

    Advice to Management

Improve project management and scheduling. Non-sense to rush everyone to work on selling an partially done products, and then keep changing the products' specifications/features which effects everyone.

Great co-workers and friendly environment. You are given the latitude in getting things done the way you want.

    Cons

People don't seem to hang out much outside of work.

    Advice to Management

Sometimes they are slow to react to market needs.

    Pros

Lots of opportunities to do well, you need to work hard and fast, ask questions and for help, and help the team anyway you can.

    Cons

Lots of different groups within the company, everyone wants to have their way, and you just do what you do, and are told
