I have been working at VWR International full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

If you are in sales you control your own destiny and have the freedom to make your own schedule.

    Cons

The Senior leadership is not very good at all. The CEO is terrible in front of an audience and shareholders are going to recognize that really soon. In sales the Senior VP's are horrible managers. Most of them have been around a long time and are responsible for flat line growth over last 5 years. There is also nepotism with the VP's and some of them are married to other senior leaders and met on the job. If you do come from another company and you are good they look for ways to diminish your views. The supply chain is not very good either.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The CEO has to shake up the senior leadership. These are the same people who have not got it done yet remain and do lateral role reversals. This company needs outside eyes ASAP! Benefits are standard. They recently had an IPO and offered the employees nothing.

    Pros

One of the main reasons I stayed was the people...was fortunate to have worked for wonderful bosses and amazing people who are always willing to help each other to get the job done and issues resolved.

    Cons

You can tell that employees are swamped, overworked and you can't really blame them for not willing to help and they lost their enthusiasm about their work. And you will never know if and when you will get the pink slip.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Perhaps corporate VWR is good to work for, but the field offices are to be desired!

I worked at VWR International full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Co-workers are nice and very supportive.

    Cons

No real leadership at all. Supervisors and Management puts blame on others, no support. They claim to have an open door policy, but don't want to hear the truth. The are micro-managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

All management and supervisors should be held accountable at all times and should be made to go through management and supervisory training courses each year. Also, out in the field, there are major "employee" issues that need to be resolved - employees feel unappreciated, harassed, bullied, betrayed.

    Pros

OK compensation, but pay plan is often manipulated by management.

    Cons

    Management is subversive at best.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get better business development managers. The ones in place are a joke and usually make the reps look bad more than anything. Could also do a better job of enforcing contract compliance with the customers VWR manages to keep.
