Vaco @ Google (Mountain View/SF) -- working as a vendor; don't waste your time

I worked at Vaco full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    - Paid vacation days. (17 a year, I believe).

    - The water bottle Vaco gives you when you start.

    Cons

    - Pay is absolutely horrible. The worst wage I've ever encountered in Silicon Valley, and when you try to renegotiate Vaco will tell you no.

    - Health benefits are just as bad. Vaco will offer you Blue Sheild/Cross of Tennessee or Symetra. Coverage for an individual under Blue Shield/Cross of Tennessee will cost between $281-311/mo; that's not including vision or dental. Vaco conveniently has a health benefit waver for you to sign within the first few pages of their packet.

    - No work-life balance but that's attributed more to Google's culture than Vaco. Be prepared to make Google/work your life.

    - Nearly impossible for any Vaco employee to be offered full-time employment at Google. Don't think this is your foot into Google.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Pay your employee's a livable wage for technical jobs the Bay Area.

    - Make a serious effort to offer better health benefits than Blue Shield/Cross. When some Kaiser plans aren't too much more, you know you're not trying.

    - Don't allow on-site Vaco representatives to work alongside with their spouses who work as vendors. It compromises the integrity of the job.

I have been working at Vaco full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Vaco is a positive and energetic environment with great people.

    Pros:
    1. The flexibility to manage your own schedule
    2. Ability to manage yourself and be responsible for own destiny
    3. Not a formal environment
    4. No one standing over the top of you

    Cons

Really not any. It's the best work environment I have see. The only Con I see is that sometimes support services and communications can be lacking and slow.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep the same culture!

    Producer's heart company
    Customer service oriented
Take care of their people - both internal and consultants
    Everyone has a voice
    Amazing trainings and trips
    Inclusive

    Cons

Cannot wait for the new system - the ATS was a bummer, but we are a strong bunch that can work through anything!!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

    good training, fun culture, engaging

    Cons

    corporate-style performance metrics, political environment

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They claim to be the alternative to the big-brand staffing firms culturally, however, they still run under the same philosophy.

I have been working at Vaco full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

freedom, independence, comraderie, ability to manage your own schedule, training, perks, the corporate management guys are some of the most fun, energetic, and motivating men I have ever come into contact with. Any Vaco event is sure to be a party. This company clearly embraces the "work hard, play hard" philosophy.

    Cons

risky to take a commission-only position after being on salary

I have been working at Vaco full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Vaco has a great culture, very collaborative and fun is the best way to put it. There is no micromanagement but results are important. Training has improved immensely and high performers are supported. I've had a great initial experience working at Vaco and plan to be here for a long while. Management treats their recruiting assets with respect and there is a great opportunity to work with some of the best professionals in the recruiting field (not one of the the biggest, but absolutely one of the best groups of anchor partners).

    Cons

Vaco made a seemingly less than optimal choice with its ATS system/strategy which hampers usage in some locations; the good news is that a new ATS is being rolled out in 2014. Marketing in general (website and collateral) could be stronger.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I am very satisfied with management and with Vaco. There is a nice balance of fair pay (not the highest and not the lowest), employee interaction and guidance along with plenty of personal growth opportunity/potential.

    I worked at Vaco full-time

    Pros

Benefits were pretty decent. Office location was nice.

    Cons

They have no idea what they are doing, the lack of leadership is abysmal, sure they will send you out to Nashville and give you a good time and pump you up. But once you get back and get that first paycheck, if you are low on the totem pole....quite the shock. Don't try to give ideas or suggestions. The fear that you know might know something more than them, scares them and they will shut you down; was glad to get out.

I worked at Vaco as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

No hassles, great people, prompt paychecks (weekly). I would gladly work for them again (and I have worked for them in the past, too). They throw a real nice holiday dinner party for their contractors, too.

    Cons

I can't really think of any downsides. My "pimp", Diana Lo, was great to work with, and I hope to work with them again in the future.
