ConsLeadership at corporate level has no clue, the last year has been a slippery slope

Advice to Senior ManagementLead by example and don't just talk about values but demonstrate them.

    Once there was a day

    Corporate Account Executive (Former Employee)
    Toledo, OH

ProsFreedom, Relationship building, great people to work with

ConsPoor production controls, hidden agendas, & this years hero....next years goat. management turnover was excessive. Multiple formats for same information. Way too much office time and lack of C/S support for reps (unless your in the branch facility). reps are responsible for sales, marketing, billing, collections, proper posting on trial balance, & acquisition of new accounts. Quota will be 15% increase per year. No exceptions. Don't make it and goodbye. Makes sense till your selling 24 million in revenue. Then ya might have a problem.

Advice to Senior ManagementCertain individuals are unethical and they know who they are. lets start with VP Sales

ProsThe people that work there are committed and great, some flexibility

ConsLongevity is not valued, lacks spark and energy

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't just talk about values - lead by example, care more about the people and less about all your pockets.

    Production, ware house

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsFor a job you can get without any experience or education, you can make a decent wage in production as long as you're willing to work for it, but it maxes out quickly. Wouldn't recommend as a long term career.

ConsYou have a regular work schedule, but if they need you to come in on others days (including holidays) it's mandatory, making home life difficult. Once you reach a certain level, there's really no place to go after.

They have so many opportunities and programs for sales and other employees, but Production gets little use of these.

Advice to Senior ManagementShow some compassion for the lower people in your business. Sales are good for business but making the people that send out your products unhappy isn't going to make your clients happy. Taking away the little things that showed you appreciate all we do, like no more Christmas gifts or Holiday Lunches to save a few dollars only shows how little we do matter. I know people that have been working here for many years that feel over worked, underpaid and unappreciated, making them wish they could go elsewhere.

    Wonderful Culture

    National Account Executive (Current Employee)

Prospay is good for national sales executive, leadership is approachable, product/service outlook is progressive, a lot of support resources,

Consantiquated in business processes, no room for advancement, leadership can be stodgy and old school, print product is losing traction, no focus on small business unless in metro DMAs.

Great People...trying to figure out its future vision.

    Manager (Former Employee)
    Livonia, MO

ProsThe people are great. Co-workers are hard-working, caring and talented. Opportunities for work/life balance. Empowering culture. Lots of training. Diversified client base in many industries. Nice to work in a Detroit area company not primarily dependent on automotive. Great marketing products. Nice office amenities and environment.

ConsCompany is struggling with growth initiatives. When the company does not make its goals, it tends to have frequent layoffs. Newer CEO is likable but the company has not done well since he took over.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet the layoffs/right sizing over with. The frequency of the cost-cutting is hurting the culture and morale of an otherwise terrific place to work. Give the new business initiatives time and resources.

Long on company culture & people...short on nimbleness

    Marketing Manager (Former Employee)

ProsGreat company culture, benefits, and opportunity to grow professionally. I enjoyed the team that I worked on--very smart, insightful people. The company had a wealth of resources available to its employees--targeting, data, industry insights, etc. Many tenured employees which can be both a positive and a negative.

ConsValassis was late getting into the digital space and it struggled to get a foot hold in that arena. Clients knew Valassis for its print products and it did not have the credibility it needed to be effective in the digital space. Valassis because of its layers of people and processes is not a nimble organization. Too focused on short term thinking (get the sale now...regardless of the long term implication). My position was eliminated in a cost savings effort in late October 2013.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to focus on making Valassis more client friendly to work with--less cumbersome. Be more transparent in reorganizations--don't blindside employees.

I was always challenged at Valassis and enjoyed my time working there.

    Customer Service Representative (Former Employee)
    Atlanta, GA

ProsValassis has good people who want to help.

ConsThe different departments work in silos so cross-functionally there is a disconnect.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to have one common company goal that everyone shares and is measured against.

Great media delivery company fighting for a seat at the table to remain a leader in the marketplace of the future

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Livonia, MI

ProsAccess to employees at all levels of the company if you have something to contribute, flexible overall cultural initiatives geared at keeping the company modern and relevant, constantly working to improve itself and its offerings to better serve clients and employees

ConsVeteran workforce (associates having 20-30 years in) with old-school hierarchal views of the workplace and climbing the ladder, passive leadership at times content with their positions versus risk taking and innovating.

Advice to Senior ManagementLet capable associates set their own PMP objectives to maximize your ability to leverage their talents and don't allow strong performers to be isolated in departmental silos but rather encourage them to spread out across the organization.
