Not bad as a student and employee, not sure I would recommend otherwise..

    IT Helpdesk Technician (Current Employee)
    Valdosta, GA

ProsI liked how if you were a staff member, you also had the opportunity to continue with your education. I also thought that usually the work place wasn't bad in my department, though there is usually a lot of politicking going on.

ConsPolicies often seem to change on a twice yearly basis, and often the work will go from way to little, to way to much very quickly depending on the time of year. Advancement is possible, but in many cases unlikely, unless you are willing to redefine your profession often.

Beautiful setting in the heart of Valdosta.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsFreedom and fun place to work

ConsSome departments are just a pain to work with. Some people are solely concerned with how much more day is left until 5pm.

Advice to Senior ManagementPick a random question about a random service that VSU provides. Call the university and see how long it takes before you get that answer. Now, take that same question and go on campus and try to figure it out in person. Improve the quality and efficiency of the process of helping people get the information they need.

Good Job while in school but not after

IT Computer Support Specialist (Current Employee)
    Valdosta, GA

ProsFlexible Schedule, Tuition Reimbursement, Benefits, Paid Holidays.
Good place to work while in school or trying to complete masters.

ConsLack of Management, No Direction, Staff are treated as subpar compared to faculty or administrators, Red-Tape All Around.
As many people have mentioned, their managers lack actual management skills because they are put into the position that they are not really qualified for because they have the connection. I mentioned red-tape because it is very political.

Enjoyed working as a GA for Housing & Residence Life at VSU

    Graduate Assistant (Current Employee)
    Valdosta, GA

ProsThe supervisors/directors in the Housing Office are really personable and really make you feel at home. They understand that school comes first and work around your schedule. They've given me plenty of opportunities to prove myself with my marketing capabilities with the creation and implementation of contests and promotional materials.

ConsI disliked having to edit newsletters, brochures, and the student planner. This was boring and I felt I could be doing better things with my time by having a student assistant handle the edits. However, it did allow me to develop a more keen eye for details.

Advice to Senior ManagementLess busy work, more challenging and meaningful work

ProsGood benefits package, especially retirement benefits.
    Decent compensation
    Friendly and helpful faculty members

ConsNeed more helpful teaching tools in the laboratories such as projectors to make teaching easier.
