Pros
- New CEO bringing freshen air for the Company
- Over the average annual bonus
- Outstanding financial and operational performance
Cons
- Despite its internationalization, there aren´t many opportunities for Brazilians abroad
- Two organizational cultures in constant struggle: The older public employees and the recently hired "high potentials"
- Huge and bureaucratic structure hindering business development
- Meritocracy still isn´t part of the organizational culture. It´s observed only in some company´s clusters
Advice to Senior Management
Take care of your workers...the best are leaving and the company will get stuck with all the underperformers who are taking advantage of the "Job for Life"
Pros
A lot of opportunity to work with colleagues from other countries, multinational working environment, attractive compensation, friendly environment, helpful managers.
Cons
Eating and drinking too much cola, working off on time, insurance and dental that makes an employee attend work without MC.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work, Vale is a great company to work in with great management and strong relationship between managers and employees.
Pros
-The company is growing and as such there are a lot of challanges on the way, so it is a great opporunity to learn a lot in a short period of time.
-New CEO reinforces health & safety as a priority as well as focus on the employees
-The company is based in Brazil, and has operations all over the world, so there are International opportunities
-If you like constantly changing enviroment this company will be a good fit for you.
Cons
-Vale is a very large company so communication can be an issue
-As mentioned above the company grew in a short period of time so changes happen constantly and as with any changes there is a room for frustrations, misunderstanding because projects might be dropped, changed or forgotten.
Advice to Senior Management
Provide clear communication to the employees on what is going on within the company on a constant basis as well as incorporate feedback intake from the employees
Pros
Bonus, Career oppportunities, Personal growth opportunities
Cons
Company need to have less control processes in order to gain speed
Relationship based on Workplace politics
In some areas still seems to a public company
Advice to Senior Management
With the change in the presidence of the company the employees are experiencing a increasing of stress level (in a diferent way from the new president's speech) as some directors seem to be uncomfortable, demonstrating that they don´t know for sure if they still will be at Vale. Bad for the people that are led by these directors.
Pros
Great benefits, great work-study balance, flexible management, great work environment, competitive compensation
Cons
Boring tasks, no need to use your brain when performing internship tasks
Advice to Senior Management
The internship roles should be at least as challenging as your selection process. It is very disappointing to discuss Vale's economic impact in the Brazilian with your managers during interviews and end up making copies and faxing afterwards!
Pros
Company with a large amount of opportunities to develop someone's career mainly in Engineering and has a huge concern on environmental issues.
Cons
The company has a solid and bureaucratic hierarchical structure that not allows employers to execute their assignments effectively and itcontributes for an underperformance of the company.
Advice to Senior Management
Managers should be less cocky and the managerial style of some leaders has been prejudicing the operational growth of the company abroad. Intercultural awareness must be embedded in the company's routine.
Pros

Cons
The management at the operation I am at barely have a high school diploma. Old miners making million dollar decisions
Advice to Senior Management
Promote and support your educated staff at Canadian Operations
Pros

Cons
The only downsize is the monthly payment.
Advice to Senior Management
Management needs to pass along informaton to the lower levels
Pros
As one of the largest companies in Brazil it provides you with a great networking opportunity in many diferent areas. The benefits are excepcional for a brazilian company. Higher up the ladder salaries are high with big bonus. Many international opportunities. Corporate base is in Rio de Janeiro, with other lesser sites in Belo Horizonte and São Paulo. Most of the leadership in the company are very qualified and bring excelent opportunies to learn from them and great networking. Since the company is growing at a very high pace, new projects are always showing up and bring new challenges constantly. In most cases the company has a good work - life balance and living in Rio de Janeiro brings alot of life quality.
Cons
Growing inside the company is hard and very political. Outsiders hired have more visibility and have a higher tendency of promotions and recognition. Some cases of very bad work life balance with lots of extra hours, which normally you dont get paid.
Operational sites are far away and very isolated. Too many hired third party companies with high turnover makes it hard to run some projects.
Vale is a very big company and spread all over Brazil and the world brings alot of cultural and social conflicts. If your not high up in the senior level, pay is not so good, and its a hard career to grow in.
Advice to Senior Management
More recognition and feedback
Pros
Good to improve network and kwon how things work on corporate
Cons
Low performance and world crise
Advice to Senior Management
Do not wait for your best employees ask to give up.
