    Pros

    Encouraged to grow. Great school.

    Cons

No hand-holding students but must still be customer service friendly.

I worked at Valencia College part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Teaching and engaging with students from diverse backgrounds.

    Cons

Little job security, you do the work of a full time professor, and the pay and respect is little to none.

    Advice to Management

    Value adjuncts more.

    Pros

Initially, a very enjoyable college at which to teach. They also offer a plentiful and diverse array of professional development courses.

    Cons

It is extremely difficult to obtain a tenured position. Many faculty are on four month and eight month contracts and then are only adjunct the other times of the year. Fluctuating between full time and part time can be very stressful.

    Advice to Management

Take greater measures to retain non-tenured faculty.

    Pros

There were no pros to this position.

    Cons

Communication was not very good, and you didn't have much of a say as to what mode you could teach.

    Pros

The Mission, Co-workers, Summer Fridays, Working and Helping Students...

    Cons

Poor management and campus leadership combined with the Human Resource Department being located off-site translates to little no support for employees in difficult situations; Growth opportunities are scarce, and pay is low for one person doing the job of many in these downsized departments.

    Advice to Management

Re-build the employee culture that once was so visible on all of the campuses. Each campus should have an HR Office on-site. Witnessed many supervisors taking advantage of the employees because they could...there is no check and balance.

    Pros

The people are great, the culture is engaging, and the president, Sandy Shugart, is an inspirational leader. There is more paid time off here than anywhere I've been. The insurance benefits are good too.

    Cons

There isn't much room for advancement if you did not graduate with a higher education degree of some sort. And even for those positions that aren't about teaching or student services, the college seems to prefer to hire from outside.

    Advice to Management

Give your employees a chance to advance,

    Pros

Great work environment and people. Excellent reputation in the academic world. Learning-centered and people-focused. Excellent benefits. In addition to vacation and sick time, there is paid time off for our breaks in March and December as well 1/2 day Fridays during the summer.

    Cons

Salary compensation may be a little under the corporate world, however, the lack of stress and extra time-off tend to make up for it.
