    Pros

patient focused environment. for the most part, employees are well respected and given opportunities for growth. There is a great work/life balance.

    Cons

The only con about Valley is that the pay is not very competitive compared to some other hospitals in the area. Other than that, I have had no complaints working here.

    Advice to Management

There is not much advice that I would give to management. I feel like my concerns are heard and considered and I work in a very healthy work environment. Valley has given me the tools to grow in my career.

    Pros

Tries to do the right thing - provides good training & management retreats.

    Cons

Not alot of room for advancement. Time off policy is not competitive and admin staff has to follow clinical staff regulations.

    Advice to Management

Bring policies up to competitive market standards. Flexible work scheding and telecommuting are standard in most institutions.

    Pros

Great coworkers, paid in services, pals, als and bls. Good benefits.

    Cons

Little room for advancement. Favoritism on the unit. Management needs to get their hands dirty helping out when short staffed.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the staff. Stop rewarding old timers with css and other higher jobs without credentials. Some dont even have bsns.

    Pros

Nice people who do the work very tight working relationship and care about the quality of work they do.

    Cons

Bad management. They don't know what it takes to get the job done..
They have all this process in place which Management does not follow only when it suits their needs..
Management does not care about workers more about themselves as they nick pick about people but they come and go as they please.

    Advice to Management

If you have a process follow it through and stop rewarding people who are wrong.

Take a good look at the people doing the phyical work and invest in them as they are your organization's future.

    Pros

Lots of new technology and products

    Cons

Little training. No growth opportunity. Weak IS management. Poor structure.

    Advice to Management

Stop managing the IS Dept as if there is only 1 system. Add multiple levels so employees have a career path. Add a project management group to oversee larger projects.

    Pros

Some coworkers are very helpful and most charge nurses are willing to help. The pay and differentials are extremely competitive with nearby hospitals. When talking to nurses who work in neighboring hospitals, it seems as though the work environment and general patient outcomes are much better at Valley. Doctors are usually very nice, professional, and informative, and do not mind being called for further questions or orders.

    Cons

Certain charge nurses, nurses, and PCA's are most of the time unwilling to leave the nurses station. This requires other nurses to help their patients in addition to their own assignments, and answer additional call bells, adding to workload. This can make shifts much more difficult and unsafe for patients.

    Advice to Management

This manager makes herself very unavailable to coworkers, which is a feeling amongst nurses of all shifts. For a simple question, or major issue, it is extremely difficult to contact her for assistance.

    Pros

Gets more funding than any other hospitals, clean environment, and friendly staffs.

    Cons

VIP treatment of certain patients. Cutting down on benefits.

    Advice to Management

No matter what the status of patients, I believe they should be all treated equally with a respectful manner.
