I have been working at Valley Health System (New Jersey) full-time

    Pros

Some coworkers are very helpful and most charge nurses are willing to help. The pay and differentials are extremely competitive with nearby hospitals. When talking to nurses who work in neighboring hospitals, it seems as though the work environment and general patient outcomes are much better at Valley. Doctors are usually very nice, professional, and informative, and do not mind being called for further questions or orders.

    Cons

Certain charge nurses, nurses, and PCA's are most of the time unwilling to leave the nurses station. This requires other nurses to help their patients in addition to their own assignments, and answer additional call bells, adding to workload. This can make shifts much more difficult and unsafe for patients.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This manager makes herself very unavailable to coworkers, which is a feeling amongst nurses of all shifts. For a simple question, or major issue, it is extremely difficult to contact her for assistance.

I worked at Valley Health System (New Jersey)

    Pros

Gets more funding than any other hospitals, clean environment, and friendly staffs.

    Cons

VIP treatment of certain patients. Cutting down on benefits.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No matter what the status of patients, I believe they should be all treated equally with a respectful manner.

I worked at Valley Health System (New Jersey) full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The nursing staff is great. They work together, help without having to be asked, strive for top-notch service to their patients, patients' families and co-workers. Nursing is always working to improve everyone's experience and outcome.

    Cons

Can overrun your life with the constant committee meetings. Hard to advance unless you take on an improvement project or get deeply involved in any of the many ongoing initiatives. Have moved to an all BSN hiring policy.

I worked at Valley Health System (New Jersey) part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

There are many opportunities for growth. Also working for VHMG, my schedule was flexible and my manager worked around my school schedule.

    Cons

Upper management was often disorganized. Our professional developments were dull and I found little purpose in them. Overall I enjoyed the company very much.

I have been working at Valley Health System (New Jersey) full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

benefits, cafeteria, inappropriate handling of employee issues

    Cons

Professionalism is not exhibited by management and lines are crossed by upper management. Directors seem to feel they are unapproachable and no loner need to prove anything. They have arrived where they want to be and the heck with everyone else.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE, MANAGEMENT NEEDS TO BE EVALUATED IN GREATER DEPTH THAN PERHAPS THE LOWER LEVEL EMPLOYEES SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY MANAGE. HOW CAN THEY MANAGE IF THEY DON'T HAVE THE PROPER TRAINNG AND SKILLS TO DO SO.

    Pros

Great ER doctors, nurses, techs, & staff!

    Cons

Poor staff to patient ratio. Managers do not listen to their staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The staff are on the front lines & know what needs to be improved; listen to them. Happy patients & employees=successful business.
It's a shame that the same mistakes are made; money is spent on the wrong things here.
