I worked at Valley Yellow Pages full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Flexible schedule, unlimited income potential. Sieg Fisher is a good solid C.E.O. but more important he is a good man. I wish him and his family all the best. Rock Clum, R,V,P in No. Cal is the best thing to happen to the office in years. It was an honor to work for him and my D.S.M.

    Cons

The economy and industry trends going away from print advertising. Even though the product is still effective and cost effective it felt like we were selling buggy whips and type writer ribbons.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No hard feelings, this was a really good company to work for. In my opinion they should find or develop a product or service that is more in demand, I know easier said than done.. Their product might still be effective, but no one cares if they, the advertisers, have all their money tied up in a digital product.

I worked at Valley Yellow Pages full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Provided a great sales training with a positive attitude for a company with a troubled outlook.

    Cons

Hard product to sell with lowering call counts and no belief from general public in main products (print) supported by owners. Outdated equipment and fairly incompetent production staff make getting ads from contract into print the way they need to be a difficult task. Used to have good compensation but was recently cut by more than 25% to existing staff. Also just cut more than half of existing sales force.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Should have sold when offered 400 million when the economy was good.

I worked at Valley Yellow Pages full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Ability to make decent money.

    Cons

Promises and more promises. My manager was a con artist and very unethical. Even charging me thousands of my commisionsfor her help which should of been free. When I called hr they did nothing. The would find any excuse not to pay bonuses. Very dishonerable company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Nothing can save this company.

    Pros

Great hours! Monday through friday weekends off. you can actually make more then 100k a year! and I really mean it not like other sales job. Examples: Car sales, Solar.

    Cons

Constant reject from clients but that comes with any sales job.
    No cons really.

I have been working at Valley Yellow Pages full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

You can make a decent income, you do have a lot of freedom and flexibility. They have 401k and min ins benefits.

    Cons

You are told sales is really a 24 hour job , and with all the expectations it really is if you want to pay your bills..it's the most stressful job ever. You always have to worry about what you are going to get paid on since it's straight commission..very high turn over this is not a job for the 9 to 5 minded person. You will never make it !

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stick to the rules , don't make rules and change them without notifying anyone. Expectations and rules should be in writing and not changed without notice. Work loads should lightened to much work expected for the pay.

    Pros

Worked in corporate office and it was a nightmare. Management is just a bunch of lazy slobs who couldn't run a dog kennel.

    Cons

Management dismisses ideas from workers, looks at sales staff as jokes even though bulk of their salaries come from their work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get out while you can. All you need to do is look at the size of your incredibly shrinking book and realize your business is obsolete and worthless!!!

    Pros

Mr. Fischer wears his heart on his sleeve and considers each of his employees a member of his family. Each of the decisions that he makes he wants to do the right thing for the employees, customers, and company and a whole to maintain a steady revenue stream.

    Cons

Many of the management staff have been been functioning in their silos for many years and have a difficult time considering changes for what is best for the company. Many man hours are spent on management decisions that are then suddenly changed in the opposite direction.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be open minded to recommendations from lower level staff on company decisions, as they are the individuals that are in the trenches and closest to the actual issues.
