Open door policy top to bottom, values continuing education. A real desire to see employees learn and grow.

    Cons

None at this time. I have had no bad experiences. It is a job, so good days and not so good days.

I have been working at Vallourec full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The company provides decent pay and benefits. There are hard working talented individuals that dedicate extra quality hours to the job.

    Cons

Performance reviews are highly subjective and one sided. Nepotism is extremely prevalent with managers giving preferential treatment to friends and spouses of other managers, this includes promotions, bonuses as determined by performance reviews, and extra vacation time when signing onto the company. Educational reimbursement is at the discretion of the manager. My manager noted that only a bachelors degree is needed when asking to be reimbursed for a higher degree--most likely this is due to the fact that this is the highest degree obtained by the manager. Limited opportunity for advancement. Perhaps this is why my manager refused to have conversations with me when requesting to know what benchmarks need to be met to be promoted--the manager stated, "why, do you want my job?" Work/life balance is poor. Archaic "management by fear" practiced by some managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider quantitative metrics and performance reviews and promotions. Treat employees with appreciation and respect. Listen for screaming managers and supply anger management classes. Have a true 360 performance review with all departmental co-workers participating in each other's reviews, not just the managers' henchmen.

I have been working at Vallourec full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The pros are decreasing at a dramatic rate.

    Cons

I made more money four years ago.
Opportunities for electrical employees and few and far between.
    High stress environment.
Cannot even run the high grade steel the mills were designed to run, the future is bleak.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You have lost several employees over the past six months due to the culture you promote. You might want to rethink your strategy, the latest round of pay increases will not keep your employees from fleeing to the competition.

I have been working at Vallourec full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Locality to where you live is the greatest pro that Vallourec offers. The next greatest pro is the pay, but beware because they are currently considering regressing some of the pay scales for tenure employees.

    Cons

Stress and working conditions. Required training programs for basic electricians include an in depth knowledge of calculus, physics and advanced electrical principles. Even with my college degree, I am getting lost in the requirements, and failure to complete 15 annual test will result in a reduction in pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start telling employees "good job" when they go beyond the call of duty instead of "you get a paycheck".

I have been working at Vallourec full-time

    Pros

    Good pay
    Good benefits
Good work- life balance comparing to competitors
    Lots of training opportunities

    Cons

    Culture bully - French dominated
Unequal treatment between expats and local employees - Expats get 3 times+ vacation days than same level of local employees, not to speak of other monetary allowance. When the expats in the team go for vacations, the local employees in the team get to do the expats' job, as you don't get the time off, and with a lower pay.
Too non-aggressive in business development activities
