Pros
No interference or checkups from Valtech.
Cons
No or very limited support from Valtech.
Advice to Senior Management
No matter how small your contract is support all employees the same.
Pros
Opportunities to work with a variety of clients - when there was work to do. Some great colleagues, all of whom now moved on to better companies.
Cons
Never a raise or bonus, totally incompetent management at all levels, complete lack of focus, no support for on-the-ground practitioners, no clue what agile means, no clue how to sell agile services, total lack of respect for the people doing the work.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop posting fake reviews! Shilling for yourselves is shameful and displays all of the traits that make Valtech a terrible place to work. Instead of making up fairy tales, devote your energies to improving the business and treating all employees with dignity and respect.
Pros
Excellent and Professional consultants
Great visions for the future
Good salaray packages
Cons
Past turmoil and previous rotten management left overs
Advice to Senior Management
Continue the open style dialogue
Pros
Still some great people that work here. Great developers with a passion for excellence
Cons
No direction for where the company is going. Where are we going and how do we get there? Stop spending all your time worrying about why the business we have doesn't cover the bills and start spending time figuring out how to build more business.
Advice to Senior Management
quit and bring in competent management. But I suspect you are already planning on selling.
Pros
The company is developer orientated, with decent benefits, and the cachet of working at a premier 'Agile' company. Also the opportunity to work with some bright minds.
Cons
Very muddled strategic direction, emphasis on buzzwords and phrases, ad hoc individuals working together instead of forging teams. Also, a priority on cleverness rather than quality.
Advice to Senior Management
Mr. Poole seemed to be doing well, and things seemed to get worse when the reins were handed to Brad Murphy.
Pros
employee focused, flexibilily, fun place to work
Cons
wrong people placed in positions that are client facing, not enough consultants with years of experience
Advice to Senior Management
Don't worry about small issues when larger problems need addressing. Place the right people in the position the 1st time to ensure success and meet client expectations
Pros
Valtech pays fairly well. The people you work with on a day-to-day level, the developers, consultants, analysts, leads, etc. are all very talented individuals. I've never worked with any better teams. Fairly good benefits package.
Cons
Lack of any leadership that actually knows how to run a business. Bad decision after bad decision with no accountability across the board. No communication as to what is going on, and what you do get usually turns out to be out right lies.
Advice to Senior Management
Get rid of the entire leadership team and replace with people who actually know how to grow a successful organization. Nail down operations first and foremost, at times it feels like college projects are run better. Sales needs a complete overhaul. Get smaller and focus on core competencies before trying to achieve exponential growth.
Pros
There aren't any; management prior to Nov. 2006 was great, but with the management change (Jonathon Poole/Brad Murphy), the company has really sucked. Communication is non-existent, and upper management out-right lies to employees.
Cons
Besides the lying, lack of communication, and complete lack of respect for any employees? You cannot trust upper management at all; there was no visibility into the business pipeline. At the first "town-hall" meeting after prior management was fired, the new management cherry-picked financial figures to make the finances look at as bad as possible as an excuse to get rid of the old management (i.e., picking the day of the month when credit is most extended --- the day after pay is posted; picking the day when receivables are at their low (billing is done twice a month)). It was done quite dishonestly, and now that things really are bad, they won't say a word about the finances.
Advice to Senior Management
Give it up and walk away. The only hope for the company is to either let it die, or walk away and allow management that knows what it is doing to step in and really get things done.
Pros
Valtech still has a lot of great people working there. In fact, with the exception of certain executives/managers, there are almost no "dummies" (for lack of a better word) to be found.
Cons
Valtech is in flux. If I had to describe it, they are at step 2 of a 3 step reinvention process and don't know what step 3 is yet. This, combined with customer contracts coming and going, leads to uncertainty and diminished job security.
Advice to Senior Management
The management needs to solicit the opinions of their developers and not just passively listen to concerns or ideas they have.
Pros
Valtech outsourced-projects are typically good projects with good technologies. The company compensates people fairly and offers good benefits. Valtech has flexible work hours and tries to balance professional and work lives.
Cons
Valtech has recently been an unstable company, especially in this economy. There has been a lack of open communication from upper management to employees. Upper Management hired several VPs and lots of employees were hired recently, only to be laid off within a very short time period. The employees that were laid off were given no advanced notice, and without much to any pay. Valtech would be a better place with different upper management and a better economy.
Advice to Senior Management
Be honest about possible layoffs, and give more time for employees to make plans.
