    Pros

    -Good work-life balance
    -Work is not very stressful
    -The only financial pro is that a job at Value Line is a stepping-stone towards more lucrative opportunities elsewhere.

    Cons

    -The pay is EXTREMELY LOW compared to industry standards, especially in Manhattan
    -Upper management is insular and inaccessible, even though the company is small
    -Lack of clear goals and guidance from the top
    -Since many fellow analysts work from home, it is rather difficult to collaborate with others and network
    -Departments do not effectively coordinate with each other
    -Few options for career development and advancement

    Advice to Management

    At this point, nothing short of a divine intervention can change upper management. They can try being more accessible, as a start. But until they see beyond their "rose-tinted" glasses and adapt to change, I am not optimistic about my future at Value Line.

    Pros

    -Lots of opportunities to learn if you are self-motivated. As an analyst, you will have access to third-party research platforms, research from respectable investment banks, Bloomberg Terminals, and plenty of time to practice your excel skills. However, you must be proactive, because the company does not care if you do any of these things.

    -Relatively stress-free work environmnet

    -Decent pay and paid time off after two years, but still well below industry average

    Cons

    Very few people actually care about doing quality research. There is virtually zero training. Price targets and buy-sell-hold recommendations are based on outdated modes of research. Management cares more about typos and making sure your research fits their template, then about where your research actually came from.

    Advice to Management

    Bring on a few respected research analysts who know what they're doing, and who would be willing to teach the rest how to properly conduct investment research. Institute a proper training program. Pay better starting salaries, because the only people who accept your job offers are the ones who can't find anything else.

    Pros

    Worked with a good team of people. Business casual for the most part. DId not require long after business hours days. Strict 9-5.

    Cons

    Base pay was lower than it could have been. Rules would be changed at the drop of a hat concerning methods of selling, which at times decreased the frequency of sales.

    Pros

    In by 9 and out by 5 and nobody has a clue what anyone else is doing.

    Cons

    Clueless and avaricious management, inflexibility, and entrenched thievery by long-term cronies make this a revolving door of poor, unmotivated non-performers. A culture of fear and backstabbing combined with low pay and a Dickensian workhouse mentality make this an awful place to work.

    Pros

    Some decent people - Good starting groud for college grads to get a taste on how to research a company - That is about it.

    Cons

    Most of upper management has no morales and do not know how to run a company - No insight of Market needs - No compelling products to meet what users really need or want - Lost everthing to Morningstar - It's a classic on what not to do to grow and retain customers - retain talent - promote and acquire new talent - A waste of time!

    Pros

    good intro to investing and stock analysis ....reasonable hours (9-5) ...rank and file workers are generally nice (there is a sense that the r&f are in a terrible situation together - which breeds a strange camaraderie)

    Cons

    both upper and middle management are AWFUL ...competitor Morningstar started 40 years or so later than Value Line - yet the former has a market cap of $3.4 billion (while Value Line is BELOW $90 million) ...weak analysts are coddled (for the control) and a small group of managers (who don't even seem interested in investing) run the show. ...company blames its struggles for the growing amount of stock research that's available free to investors - it's a joke

    Advice to Management

    put the company up for sale (maybe the name has some residual value) ...hope that private equity or some other entity bites ...then fire the CEO, as well as the top and middle managers

    Pros

    Minimal hours (9-5) and will hire people with no finance background, possibly a good place to get started in finance if you are young just need some experience

    The highest levels of management are not only narrow-minded they also have been found guilty of various SEC fraud.

    Quite. Let someone else run the business.

    Pros

    None, the place is full of people who are unhappy and have given up. You will find plenty to complain about!

    Cons

    Finger pointing is common and no one takes the time to do the right things until its too late. No career path and pay is low compared to other companies. Dead end job

    Figure out what you're doing! This company is going under fast

    Pros

    There is absolutely nothing good about this company. It's managment has proven it's ineptness by looking at the share price.

    Cons

    The culture is a culture of corruption. The SEC investigation, although barring the former CEO and another from the industry, fining her $10 million and the company $10 million, missed alot.

    You have to sign in and out with a time card.

    There is high turnover, so you are always training someone new.

    If you are late or have a "messy desk" you can have your pay reduced.

    Management has some serious issues and the company seems to always being sued, which is why there are never any bonuses.

    However, the major shareholder donated $400,000 to some research hosptial in Massachusetts. Look up the grants of the Arnold Bernhard Foundation on Guidestar.

    Advice to Management

    Resign. The company cannot remain viable under your leadership (or lack of it).
