I worked at Vanderlande Industries full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Company tries to engage employees and provide a positive culture. Benefits are excellent and pay scale is good.

    Cons

Almost everything is reactionary. lack of processes, accountability, measurements and conviction to take a stand and do the right thing. Politics and drama are standard and have to navigated through daily.

    Advice to Management

Upper Management needs to set expectations and create/enforce processes. Too much trust is placed on Middle Management which has consistently demonstrated to be incapable. All departments and employees are important and so the culture of all employees are servants to the Project & Site team needs to stop!

    Pros

Fun atmosphere. International culture. Vanderlande has some of the best benefits that I've seen offered for employees including health, dental, vision and 401K. The time off policy there is also amazing.

    Cons

Lower level staff often feels under appreciated and overworked. Poor communication from some management.

    Advice to Management

Make sure your lower level workers feel appreciated by you and feel like their opinions truly do matter.

    Pros

    You got to learn alot

    Cons

Not enough employees when someone is sick so you work 60 70 hours a week. They are a company that try to employ young people and get them trained as fast as they can then pay them way under what they should be making. It's very unorganized and unprofessional. They promise you things then once employed they take them away. Very greedy company. Company is going down the drain fast

    Advice to Management

They need to be nicer to there employees and make everyone work together instead of against each other.

    Pros

umm a pay check every week is all i can say

    Cons

make less money every year.company takes no responceablity in the bad decisions that upper managment makes.upper managment doesnt do what they say they will do and the keeps it a hush hush til forced to say some thing and even then its not true.employess are treated like a rewd headed step child by upper managment.all that matters is making them money at the exspense of the employees.they make hard decisions they will say but what they do is take the easy way out by taken all they can from employess.a hard decision would be to take the food out of your own kids mouth and not the employees who had noting to do the the decision making.and every year they take more bennis untili there isnt any left to take, and call that a hard decision to make.and having knowledge of the conveyor systems and the skills to keep the baggage system running is a demional job that a 7 dollar a hour employee can do.and if that isnt bad enough they expect employees to do way more then they are hired for and call that being a good employee.well im here to make money just like they are.not enough people to do the job saftly and correctly and no tools to do the jobs.no back up for employees from upper manag. its just a do this and you pay out your own pocket to get the job dont.

    Advice to Management

people that are working for vi are there to make money just like you are why should the be shouldering all the bad and vi take none.my advice is to get out of this business while you still have a shirt on your back because it will be hard to get good quality employees and keep good quality employees by treating them that way

I have been working at Vanderlande Industries full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You get a weekly paycheck. You will get a uniform. You will be given work to do. That's about it.

    Cons

Let me list a few: 1. Pay and benefits are not competitive. 2. Due to pay and benefits not being competitive there is a constant revolving door. 3. New employees are hired with no experience and given absolutely no company training. 4. Hourly employees have seen pay cuts and benefits obliterated in the last year due to corporate managements poor decision making. 5. There is a company first and family second mentality that made this organization toxic. 6. Raises for hourly employees taken away and employees were not notified. 7. Bonuses for hourly employees were taken away and they were not notified. 8. Holiday pay was chopped twice and in both cases the employees were not notified in advance. 9. Medical insurance was switched mid year to a plan pushing 90% percent of cost to employees, as a result majority of employees lost coverage's for their families, also with no prior notification. I also blame OBAMA here. 10. Everything that was promised at interview was a lie and any benefits offered have been taken away with no transparency, so you found out when the money was not in your checking account. This constant practice of NO notification is not how you should run a business as people are relying on their hard earned money and Expect it to be there on pay day. 11. There is a very high turn over rate so there is always room for advancement. As skilled employees leave unskilled personnel take jobs which they are not qualified to do or will receive any company training. This results in the last remaining skilled workers to work harder and pick up the slack which is why more people are leaving. 12. There is no personal development here, Morale is low and there is no inspiration from corporate management. 13. Seems corporate management has no idea how to treat hard working loyal employees. 14. THE MOST INPORTANT THING OF ALL "THE CUSTOMER" These decisions are affecting the workforce and your workforce is jumping ship which will result in poor performance and service to your customer.

    Advice to Management

Support your project manager and your employees. Practice what you preach and embrace your core values. If you do not change your course "Good Luck winning a renewal on your contacts"

    Pros

The are no pros in working for this company.

    Cons

This company has no idea how to operate in the US. Corperate has no idea how to run a company and has no earthly idea how to treat hard working loyal employees. No benefits, several were promised but were quickly taken away once corperate made several bad and very costly decisions. The employees paid for corperates poor decision making, while corperate took everyones bonuses and pay. Again, obama runs this country better than corperate runs this business. Gross incompitance in upper management that hard working employees pay for. If this was the only company to work for in the world, I would rather live on unemployment. Everything they promise is a lie, even if it is in writing. I bet all of the good reviews here on this site are put in by the same incompitant corperate people that make this job unbareable.

    Advice to Management

Give up and leave the US.

    Pros

Team that is interested in helping you succeed. Well balanced work environment, no pressure to work too many hours. Compensation is competitive. Company has great values that most people embrace.

    Cons

Company prioritized growth in the US over building experience, so company did not execute well on larger projects, with many positions filled by new and recent hires. This resulted in a. companies not trusting VI to execute similar large projects and b. large layoffs because of the struggles of the business. Layoffs were seemingly made with little insight from middle management.

    Advice to Management

Continue to make use of more experienced resources based in the Netherlands on projects, don't prioritize growth over people. Be willing to use the knowledge of personnel that middle management has.

I worked at Vanderlande Industries full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    - For the most part, the office has a very friendly and open atmosphere, that encouraged talking with colleagues face-to-face. - Friendly office atmosphere - Quality product - Project management that worked hard and went above and beyond - Opportunities to work and learn abroad - There are a lot of smart, hard-working people in the company - Multiple company outings, both sponsored and unsponsored, throughout the year

    Cons

    - Limited formal training for new employees, requiring senior personnel to take time from project work to train new employees - Much of the company knowledge in WPP comes from the Dutch office - Company policy of customer first became detrimental in terms of project schedule and budget - Though project management works hard, they sometimes don't get the support they need from upper management

    Advice to Management

    - Provide better, focused training for new hires - Don't always give in to customer demands - Talk to personnel in the field - Work toward long-term solutions instead of short-term band-aids
