Former Employee - Customer Service Representative Tier1 in Coralville, IA

I worked at Vangent full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Co-workers, Supervisors and trainers. It's a job that gets you buy until you find a better one.

    Cons

Inability to use the restroom between breaks (kidney dialysis in your senior years), minimal health insurance, not a place to work if you have ill children, no raises only more work, no rewards -maybe a free dinner 2x's a year. No respect afforded to you as an employee, sterile work environment-with no personalization of family pics.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Review for actual raises and perform face-to-face exit interviews to evaluate high attrition. Training is expensive no matter how you look at it.

I worked at Vangent full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Salary wasn't too bad, but substantial bonuses were reserved for those at the top.

    Cons

Only the leadership team is allowed to have ideas. Leadership doesn't take responsibility for decisions. If things go south, they look for a scapegoat to blame. There is no integrity at the top so it's difficult to keep morale up. They don't value anyone except themselves.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You have a set of core values that you where around your neck, they should be more than just something you quote, they should be the moral compass of the organization.

Former Employee - Customer Service Representative in Lawrence, KS

I worked at Vangent full-time for more than a year

    Pros

relatively high pay for dead-end non-degree job, time goes quickly, can be an alright job if viewed as a stop-gap remedy to make a living/ pay bills

    Cons

constant feeling of being replacable, verbal abuse over phone from dissatisfied callers, sitting all day without moving, getting zero rewards or positive reinforcement for effective work, getting reprimanded for ridiculous infractions--ie. going twenty seconds over on break, horrible call monitering assesments--a bad call if you don't do something obscure like express sympathy when the caller isn't even necessarily upset, etc, etc, etc

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Blow the whole company up.

I worked at Vangent as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Its a job that allows you to tell defaulted borrowers that their tax refund will be taken.

    Cons

The minimum wage should be $10.56 adjusted for inflation - this job pays 10.29 ! This is a very responsible job where you have contact with Credit Reporting Agencies, College Financial Aid Offices and where you generally have a lot of public trust, yet you are working in a factory environment for minimum wage! I have nothing but contempt for my former employer General Dynamics who did not even have the courtesy to give me medical or retirement benefits even after working over 10 months. There was never a raise and overtime was required. ( why not when you pay so little) It all would be so different had the skill level of this job not been so high, and the profits so very high for the employer.

Current Employee - Tier Three Representative in Phoenix, AZ

I have been working at Vangent full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

As a tier III rep it pays ok, and the people you work with are great, including supervisors.

    Cons

Management is horrible (Above the supervisor position.) Benefits aren't that great. The job is a government contract so most issues come from the fact that the government selected the company based off the fact that it bided low to represent the government.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give the CSRs a raise if they go to any other insurance they will be paid more.

    Pros

Making friends with the people who work there. Thats about it.

    Cons

Just about everything there gets worse by the day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If we have to follow a certain rule then you should have to as well. Management sets the stage for an employee and a good manager doesnt need to micro manage. People will gladly work in a stressful environment if they know their mangers have to abide by the same rules.

I have been working at Vangent for less than a year

    Pros

There are no Pros in working here. Everyone is on a power trip and unprofessional.

    Cons

Worst employer and employment ever! You have to deduct time from your break if you go to the restroom!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire some real Managers and Team Leaders. What the heck is an Acting Team Leader? Someone who doesn't want to be on the phone. That's all.
