I worked at Vanguard Investments Australia
Pros – Vanguard offers great benefits. These include 401k, profit-sharing plan, medical benefits & generous time off. They also offer decent training for people who have no industry experience.
Cons – I compare Vanguard to working for the government. Given the huge number of workforce, advancement is slow and beareucratic. The pay is mediocre to start, rises to mediocre mid-career, and tops out mediocrely.
Advice to Senior Management – They should seek to allow individuals to advance more quickly based on personal performance and not place long time-in-job requirements across the board.

I have been working at Vanguard Investments Australia
Pros – Good benefits, otherwise this is not a place to make a career unless you are tip-top management. The best people go elsewhere
Cons – lousy compensation, a..-kissing helps promotions, no room for creativity, this is not a company for those who want to advance based on skill
Advice to Senior Management – Take away the Kool-Aid and get out of your offices to talk to the people on the front lines

I worked at Vanguard Investments Australia
Pros – The people are great. The benefits are excellent. The working conditions are very good. You will make many friends here.
Cons – Senior managment is deluded and turns on a dime. The direction of management changes frequently. It is unfortunate, but this is the type of place where you are evaluated once, and if liked, you move ahead. If not - you are cast aside. Beware.
Advice to Senior Management – Get rid of Jack Brennan. He has no soul.

I worked at Vanguard Investments Australia
Pros – The company has a good reputation and working here will look good on your resume. The benefits are good and the campus is a very attractive place.
Cons – The salaries are very low. The culture is conservative and corporate. Ineffective/outdated problem-ridden technology (my department used an outdated DOS system which was constantly having problems), crushing workload, understaffed - each person does the work of 2. Poor training - and training partners/mentors are held to same production standards as non-mentors, therefore not really available for the people they are mentoring. Performance assessments are calculated in an unbalanced/ineffective manner where complex transactions are weighted the same as simple transactions. Overall, the emphasis at Vanguard is on cheapness and this is most evident in the low salaries, the resistance to staffing fully and the resulting backlog and angry customers.
Advice to Senior Management – Provide staff with up-to-date technology so that they can do their job effectively. Hire an adequate number of employees to handle the workload. Give training partners a lower production requirement so that they are available to work with their trainees. Use a fair method of calculating performance where complex transactions are weighted more heavily than simple transactions.

I have been working at Vanguard Investments Australia
Pros – Anonymity is probably the best thing about the place. It's huge and no one knows who you are unless you want them to
Cons – There's little left for the people at the bottom of the very steep pyramid. The benefits go to the guys at the top.
Advice to Senior Management – Spread the love. Share the wealth. Rather than being so secretive about the company's true goals, how about sharing what you're really thinking rather than hiding behind platitudes and six-sigma stuff.

I have been working at Vanguard Investments Australia
Pros – Status and reputation of the company, looks good on resume.
Cons – Low pay, understaffed (each staff member must do the work of about 2-3 people), files piled up the ceiling with angry customers who have been waiting for their issues to be resolved, but not enough staff (Vanguard is too cheap to hire an adequate number of people), antiquated DOS record keeping system that breaks down and even senior staff cannot resolve issues, unreasonable production demands, unfair method of calculating performance.
Advice to Senior Management – Devise fair methods of calculating performance where complex and problem issues receive more weight than simple transactions like changing a client's address. Get updated computer system and do away with DOS. Provide adequate, hands-on training instead of coma-inducing lecture-based training.
