    Pros

I worked at Vantage for 4 years. Much has been written about the crazy culture with the hands-on owner, Henry Lewis. Most of it is right on. He's old-fashioned, direct, tough. But he's successful for a reason and is a brilliant marketer. If you can get past this and look at the positives, Vantage can be a great place to work and grow your career. The company's travel "journeys" are superb quality and get rave reviews from customers. You work with smart co-workers who are usually very supportive. You will be challenged with tight deadlines and tasked with knowing the numbers. People who leave will invariably say they learned a tremendous amount.

    Cons

There has been a good deal of turnover, so you end up having to learn a lot on your own. Also, departments tend to be lean, so workload can be heavy. Benefits are pretty good, but bonuses are rare. Work from home is usually a non-option, so expect to be in the office a full day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management works well when they get the culture and support other departments. Sr managers need to be a buffer from Mr Lewis and support their staff.

    Pros

If the best thing is the train station that is not a good place to be.

    Cons

too many...but lets say that if you have a great idea take it elsewhere. it will not happen here. too much turnover every week it seems.

    Pros

Other than decent compensation there are no pros until there is a change in its CEO. The only Pro might be that you learn not to care about the job, protect yourself and not to think about any ideas to help the business, while out of work. Another may be that you can receive a check while you look for another job.

    Cons

It's leader. There's the inability to deal with people, which has been the case for over 25 years. He stunts the growth of his own company by only doing what he wants to do. Its the single reason why the company falls further behind the competition.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Unless you retire and bring in marketing talent nothing is ever going to change

    Pros

    free fruit comes on Mondays
location near North Station makes a range of lunch choices possible

    Cons

most hostile work place you can imagine. A dark comedy on horrible work places would underestimate the terror.

There really are too many cons to list. If you are looking to write and expose on awful places to work then get a job here..

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

don't accept a role if offered.

I worked at Vantage Deluxe World Travel full-time for less than a year

    Pros

I worked at Vantage for only about 6 months. I liked it. The trips are really cool, and the company is pretty successful and competitive. The systems are pretty old and kind of hard to learn, also not transferrable to many other future jobs. The marketing is fairly traditional, but starting to evolve. There are a lot of negative reviews on here but it's a very demanding and unique work environment and I enjoyed it. It was a challenge, but had it's perks. Free gym, cool locations, sometimes I'd even be lucky enough to get tickets to games at the garden. Overall, I really liked working at Vantage.

    Cons

Workload was a challenge. You tend to get too caught up in things and work too much. It kind of sucks you in. Sometime you get beat down for things that you didn't have a lot of control over, but in the end it's usually your fault a bit.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Know your stuff and do well. If you do a good job you get rewarded, if you don't, well.. you get a pretty short leash.

    Pros

Benefits, nice coworkers, great location, very close to the train station. Training was pretty good considering how hard it was to adapt to their server.

    Cons

Micromanaging if you work for certain departments. Mandatory weekend work if you work in some departments. High turnover. Not a very stable job, but if you need something in the meanwhile, take the job and just keep your eyes open.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I enjoyed my time there and hope that things can change a bit so that the company can continue growing.

    Pros

Your initial 30 day honeymoon period will be like the scene at the beginning of a slasher film where the college students are driving out to the woods. Everything is normal & fine -- for now.

    Also free bananas.

    Cons

Every negative thing written here by other reviewers is true.

Some of the neutral things ("convenient to North Station") are true. I'm not lying about the free bananas, either.

Virtually all of the positive things said about the company, its management, prospects for advancement, company's prospects for growth, etc., are false. The social media team was instructed to write numerous favorable, fake reviews to this site. If you read carefully, you can spot them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at Vantage for a long time.

Keep doing what you're doing, because clearly it's important to you to run things your way.

It's your money, so who am I to argue?

    Pros

Convenient to North Station and the T.

    Cons

The numerous negative reviews are absolutely true. If considering Vantage as a place to build your career - consider your move carefully. If you want to work in the owner's "candy store" where what he says goes and where he considers his abusive and crude behavior appropriate because it's his company - this place may just be a place for you. There are also participants who have found safe haven in being the owner's negative conspirators to pull others down to keep themselves safe. Meetings are hijacked for hours where collaboration and creativity are squashed. People are paged as if they are were doctors to report to an emergency room - rather they are called upstairs to be demeaned and challenged. Everyone is required to report on their contributions on a weekly basis and negative aspects are pulled out for public ridicule. Most who are junior in their role openly convey they are their to build their resume. Too bad - this place could be great - but no chance unless things change at the very top. Be careful who you trust. Watch your back. And you better be strong because abuse should be expected. Unless you are in the call center where your work can be constantly monitored, there are no flexible work arrangements. You will need to work nights and weekends just to do your work because your workdays are absorbed by meetings, preparing for meetings and reports. Relentless accountability with no empowerment or progressive thinking.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take action, speak up, encourage independent thinking and create a supportive encouraging environment. Look at the patterns – extensively high turnover leaves the person ultimately responsible – the owner. The senior management team needs to stand up and highlight the true cause of dysfunction. If you want to grow as a company and keep pace with the competition – improve employee relations.

I have been working at Vantage Deluxe World Travel for less than a year

    Pros

There are some really great people here. Close to North Station.

    Cons

Unfortunately many of them have battered wife syndrome because they know if they challenge top leadership or a pit bull accomplice, they will be fired on the spot. The turnover is huge. Even if you are desperate for a job you won't last long if you have any self respect. Every aspect of operations is in disarray because there is no institutional memory, or a cogent business practice that treats employees humanly. I just witnessed someone really great who had to go because he was sabotaged by leadership who wouldn't let him run his area properly. Sucks BIG TIME. Don't do it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Either go back to school and get some training, or leave the company to others who are more knowledgable about running a business. I'm not saying this to be spiteful and I certainly am not exaggerating--there is so much wasted potential because of your ridiculous, childish, petty, and abusive behavior.

    Pros

    * The same ones you will see on each review, location, free fruit, sports tickets...
    * The ability to bond with co-workers in a way that simulates a war time setting (albeit for a short time due to turnover)
    * Excellent career advancement potential if you are adept at writing phony reviews on glassdoor.

    Cons

Imagine for a minute, Gary Busey on a peak cycle of steroids and acid....Now give him full power with no accountability and a trendy pair of nut hugging shorts.....Now make him micro manage every aspect of your job while changing his directives daily and blaming you for following yesterday's orders... Now provide a backdrop of an outdated system that can't ever be upgraded due to the high turnover in IT and every other department...Now be held 'accountable' for the constantly changing numbers that are churned from this aforementioned system....Now watch in awe as every single person you work with gets fired....Is today your day?........Welcome to Vantage...... Am I clear?....Did I say it right?
